I'm really similar to you regarding speaking etc.

We have this internal forum which I think is quite common for larger companies. Basically everything that happens, project wise, decision wte gets posted on the forum. Debates, arguments, the lot. It's really good as you don't lose anything in emails. Anyway you can be having huge debates with people or in some cases big arguments but then walk past eachother in the corridor, or even worse they are sat at a computer about 10 yards away from you. You see them hammering away at the keyboard and await the email notification to come through

I thought the headphones thing would confuse you. Everybody seems to use headphones now, the usual excuse is that they like to relax whilst working, but imo, silence is a lot more relaxing to me.

Looking forward to the poker career story, was pleasantly surprised about your "poker cv" when I checked hendon mob, not because of ability, just because I didn't think you'd ever have the "grinding" mentality.

If the term "grinding" can be applied to Live poker, hell yes, I could grind! Sit there all day & pass, me.

I always thought it was a term exclusive to Online poker, no?

Why is it such a tremendous post?

All the examples I read there were related to working mines and involved smoke/fire/explosions. Totally different scenario from a poor lady falling down a derelict shaft and firefighters being stopped from giving her immediate assistance due to H&S

I personally cannot comprehend both in this case and in Mantis' example how an individual cannot offer immediate assistance here, H&S or not

I just think overall health and safety rules have been a tremendous force for good.  Work place deaths from accidenets etc have dropped enormously because we care about these things here.  I simply have no doubt that lives saved >> lives lost.I suppose it is inevitable that people will make incorrect judgements.  It is interesting how the daily mail etc are implying that H and S is to blame.  But there were a bunch of "witnesses" there who watched the man drown.  I assume not one of them was encumbered with any health and safety rules which stopped them stepping in 3ft of water. 

I always like to think I'd step in but you never really know either.  I suppose your average policeman isn't much different to me.

I endorse that 100%. And if the price is that, sometimes, it goes a little too far, & receives a bit of mocking, so be it - it's a price well worth paying.

Workplace accidents - genuine ones - are just too horrible for words.

What has not been mentioned, or not that I have seen, is the effect these "Ambulance Chaser" Insurance forms have had, either.

"Had an accident at work? - claim NOW", like people need telling. This has had a HUGE impact on how H & S in the Workplace is addressed.

Much of current H & S Policy is aimed at, or framed by, Insurance Companies, not the welfare of individuals.

Recent changes in legislation will start to have an impact in the number of these firms around. From next April, for example, thepremium on the insurance policy that you take out on the No Win No Fee cases won't be recoverable from the other side. Sounds silly but it will have a big impact on the piddly little claims if you are guaranteed only to get a small return.

The winning lawyer used to get an "uplift" on their fees of 100% (an incentive on the liable party to settle out of court) but those days have gone.

Claims Management Companies are better regulated now and, whilst none of this can kill of a compensation culture, it won't be anything like as lucrative for the lawyers, which means it won't be as inviting for the less moralistic; those with, shall we say, weaker necks.

Similarily of you were a good poker player bd had good enthusiasm of the game what would you do?

The first braked suddenly, the second ran into him, she went into the back of the third

The first car left the scene at pace

The driver of the second car claimed he was injured, neck, ambulance called

Details taken, police arrive at the scene.

Immediately suspect something amiss, and call in the "accident fraud" team

They reported to the insurance companies with their doubts on whether it was a genuine accident, and have yet to pay out (nine months later) to the middle car, the first car never been traced

Apparently "insurance accidents" particularly involving whiplash, are a real blight for the insurance companies

Yep that's why your premium is so high. People literally drive round, banging into others and claiming whiplash, bad backs, affected periods, nightmares. You name it. That's what they do "for a living".

There is no word that can adequately describe them. The most fetid and squelchy of bottom gravy peddlers.

One guy went to Prison recently for doing this, he had over 400 similar "accidents" (someone ran into the back of him) inside a year!

His MO was to brake suddenly, & with no reason, then the rest was easy.

Sadly, claiming non-existent "whiplash injuries" after car accidents is almost a badge of pride these days.

I saw Matthew Pinsent on Who do you think you are and they traced his family tree. They managed to trace him back so far that they showed him he was related to God.

The scammers have recently changed the long standing convention that if Car A runs into the back of Car B on the open road, Car A is automatically at fault.  A bunch of scammers were finding people who tailgated them, get to a roundabout or tight bend, slam the brakes and take the hit.  The car was normally not badly damaged but when the photos went to the insurance company they looked like they'd been slammed into by a couple of trucks.  The fraud squad got onto this and now you're not automatically the party at fault if you go into the back of someone.

I know the budget was allocated very differently too, much more resource to the offtrack support, and that gave them a competitive advantage but whoever lent Sky's name and approved the sponsorship budget, good job!

BSKYB have been very "cycle positive" for some time. They have all sorts of cycle-based activities & ameneties, "Sky Rides", all sorts. Guess it fits the "Green/Sustainable" image.

I find it interesting that they sponsor one of the few sports that isn't on Sky Sports at all.
