Could not agree more reference the negative impact of the Trams on the 'feel/atmosphere' of Sheffield town centre. They have carved the centre into unrelated pieces and broken the sense of wholeness creating a alienating urban void.Very sad and an impact which the planners cannot have imagined.I have a sense that the same is about to happen in Edinburgh.
That's a shame because I didn't get the same impression from the trams in Amsterdam or Prague, where the systems seem so efficient & seem to bring the city together.
^^^^
Agree 100%. Amsterdam's system is magnificent, & blends in a treat. It just seems to
belong
there, not be an imposter.

Ooh, thanks Rod. Except for the last one.
Note the cobbled streets. I don't know about Glasgow, but there are still miles of cobbled streets in Edinburgh.
There's not many left with cobbles visible - although you can see where they've been tarmacked over when there are roadworks or potholes, there was a story about a street where the council were taking off the tarmac & restoring the cobbles, dug them all up, cleaned them & someone stole them one weekend, worth a fair amount apparently. A lot of the centre has had stone flags put down, they're actually fairly attractive.
Re the Dam, is it that we don't know the city without them? Although they seem to fit OK in Manchester.

That bridge is known as the Heilanmans umbrella! The trams went from Glasgow in the late 50s I think. I remember the trolley buses that used the trams power lines after they went. You might notice in the photo that the street is cobbled, fine for horses but not very comfortable for drivers. The need to tarmac the raods was one of the reasons for the move to trolley buses.
lol Rod beat me to it!

FWIW, also hate the tram in Sheffield, they are the most unsociable pieces of transport in Sheffield, would rather bus.
Also, agree with comments about trams taking away parts of Sheffield, imo.

No! I only found it an hour ago, so it should not be too difficult. I'll keep looking.
Found these whilst looking though.

Name the football ground.
Proper queues, them.
Even Tighty will struggle with this.

No.
I believe it was much more recent, too - perhaps 1950, or thereabouts.

Dens Park, Dundee? Looks much the same now, was there a few days ago, walked past to Dundee Utd's ground a couple of hundred yards down and across the road.
The first Tram pic you just posted it the Hielanman's Umbrella from the other side.

Correct - Dens Park Dundee, the home of Dundee FC apparently.
Amazingly, in EXACTLY the same street - Tannadice Street or is it Sandeman Road? - as Tannadice Park, the home of Dundee United.

That is the two Stadiums, or Grounds?
Good grief. How did that ever make sense?!
