On the same subject, at one Aussie tour event years ago one guy won a car for a hole in one. It was placed on a plinth behind the hole and he wanted some pictures of him standing on top of it so came back after the round in his soft shoes and got the photographer to get some shots.
On the same tee the day after he took all the plaudits from the crowd and officials and pumped up by the adrenalin over hit his tee shot , hit his now new car and broke the window with his ball.

How about this for warming the cockles Tony.
Keith Horne, a journeyman golfer from South Africa is playing in the Alfred Dunhill Championship golf this week and in his second round on Friday he managed to make a hole in 1 on the par 3 12th hole, which happened to be the 'win a car' for a hole in one hole this week. The only problem was some confusion over which days the promotion took place. It turned out his hole in one didn't qualify for the car promotion which he was rightly disappointed about.
On the tee at the 12th hole in his 3rd round he was jokingly asking if the 'win a car promo' stood for today's third round and was told it didn't. The promo was only in play for Sunday's final round. He then holed his tee shot for a second day for back to back hole in ones on the hole but again on the wrong day to win the car.
After finding out he had again managed to make a hole in one the car firm running the promo decided to give him a car anyway, which was nice.
GREAT story Phil, thanks.
Too many depressing stories, more fun stories please.
I wonder what the odds of someone doing that on consecutive days would be?
Has that EVER been done before in Pro golf, I wonder? Must be highly unlikely.

That double hole in one.......
You could probably get 2/1 ANY golfer getting a hole in one in that Event on ANY Par 3.
There are (I assume) 4 x Par 3's, &, at a guess, 100+ players in the event, & four rounds.
I can't do the maths ("math"?), but the price must be monsta.

Some colour photographs taken over 100 years ago. Just incred
Just a bit, wonderfully evocative.
Tell me, Ryan, I know you pretty well, from being a Luton regular, we work together, we've chilled in Vegas, you are a successful multi-table cash regular, this & that, but you keep surprising me. How did you stumble upon that website - what non-poker interests do you have?
I loved this photo, especially.....
I just like clicking random stuff on the internet. Am totally fascinated by the past tho and just read endless amounts.
Think that you'll also enjoy this...
http://www.rbooks.co.uk/product.aspx?id=1846074584
In 1909 the millionaire French banker and philanthropist Albert Kahn embarked on an ambitious project to create a colour photographic record of, and for, the peoples of the world. As an idealist and an internationalist, Kahn believed that he could use the new Autochrome process, the world's first user-friendly, true-colour photographic system, to promote cross-cultural peace and understanding.
Until recently, Kahn's huge collection of 72,000 Autochromes remained relatively unheard of. Now, a century after he launched his project, this book and the BBC TV series it accompanies are bringing these dazzling pictures to a mass audience for the first time and putting colour into what we tend to think of as an entirely monochrome age.
Kahn sent photographers to more than 50 countries, often at crucial junctures in their history, when age-old cultures were on the brink of being changed for ever by war and the march of twentieth-century globalisation. They documented in true colour the collapse of the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian empires, the last traditional Celtic villages in Ireland, and the soldiers of the First World War. They took the earliest known colour photographs in countries as far apart as Vietnam and Brazil, Mongolia and Norway, Benin and the United States. In 1929 the Wall Street Crash forced Kahn to bring his project to an end. He died in 1940, but left behind the most important collection of early colour photographs in the world.
My fav picture was this. A girl in Mongolia sentenced to death by being trapped in a box, trying to set herself free. I wonder what she did to deserve this 'punishment'. I wonder if she managed to escape or if once the guy took the photo he helped her out. I think its unlikely tho.

That's a great photo - I really like boats and ships as a subject for
art
photo's and pictures, I think this photo would be alright with just the panorama but I think the moored boats really made it worthwhile

More golfing feel good
Daniel Popovic went into this weeks Australian PGA championship ranked 1251st in the men's golf world rankings Tony and was 1000/1 on Betfair to win the event. He is something like 30 odd over par on the season for his completed rounds.
His dad is dying of cancer and he promised he would try to win a tournament for him. He shot 64 in the first round, was in front after every round and even after falling 2 behind down the stretch he got back up to win one of the biggest golf events in Australia.

Have you ever heard of Fractals? A pretty fascinating mathematical subject where the more you look into it the stranger and stranger it becomes.
A simple (in Fractal terms) example of a Fractal is the coastline of Great Britain. How long is it? Measure it on Google Maps and you'll get a certain length. Measure it with a metre rule and you'll get a longer length. Measure it with a 30cm ruler and you'll get a longer length again. So the shorter the instrument you measure it with the longer it gets. If you measure it with shorter and shorter (i.e. more precise) instruments the coastline of Great Britain seems infinate! This is due to the coastline being not one dimensional like a line or two dimensional like a surface but somewhere inbetween. I did say it was simple in Fractal terms.
It's explained better here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_Long_Is_the_Coast_of_Britain%3F_Statistical_Self-Similarity_and_Fractional_Dimension
This was just a lead up to being able to post some beautiful pictures, how and what produces these images is to my mind astounding.
I'll post a few pictures, a few links to some videos and then show what produces all of what you've just seen.
The first computer generated image of the Mandelbrot Set (I produced an identical image while working as a Mainframe Operator back in 1989).
The basic starting Mandelbrot Set
A zoomed section of the Mandelbrot Set
Zoomed 'Islands' found within the Mandelbrot Set called a Julia 'Island'
A couple of videos showing how as you zoom in further and further on the "coastline" of the Mandelbrot Set you see more and more detail that was previously hidden until you looked closer.
Now here is the amazing bit, everything you have just seen is generated by the formula
z = z
2
+ c
Here is the man who coined the term Fractal and discovered the Mandelbrot Set
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benoit_Mandelbrot
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandelbrot_set
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal
Whenever I stumble across Fractals and the Mandelbrot Set I get hooked at looking at new images and watching videos for days.
Don't even get me started on Strange Attractors or the Golden Ratio.
One more video, the man himself Benoit Mandelbrot explaining Fractals (at 14 mins he discusses the Mandelbrot Set).

Fascinating post I'm going to delve into shortly.
As an aside, it is a major disappointment to me wikipedia isn't regarded as a strong source. Everything is referenced and checked. Hopefully it will be appreciated properly soon.

Morning Tony,
I meant to post a few questions on here, but totally forgot and my internet is playing up!
I was just wondering on your possible work plans and possible retirement in the future? Also why you don't really talk much poker these days, example being in general & hardly ever in PHA, when it seems you are probably the most experienced on here?
Hope you don't mind me asking these questions.
