Mill Reef may well have been "thrashed" by the Brigadier over one mile in the 2000 guineas Tony but he more than redeemed himself by winning both the Derby and the Arc de Triomphe.
As a son of Northern Dancer who is probably the greatest "sire of sires" in racing history it was no great surprise after his racing career that he would be pretty succesful at stud.
<edit>
I've just looked at Mill Reef's breeding and was shocked to find that there's not a drop of Northern Dancer to be found anywhere but I did notice Hyperion who was his mother's great-great grand-sire.
I could have sworn he was a Northern Dancer too

In 45 years in the public eye, Sue's life does not appear to have been touched by even the merest whiff of scandal, which is quite something these days, especially with all ther Social-Media stuff we see now, where peeps say anything about anyone.
There is a story (which has never been confirmed, and has also been attributed to Jan Leeming) of Sue Lawley getting intimate with another member of staff in a BBC cupboard. Sadly for her, she'd forgotten to take her mic off and thus the phrase 'Fuck me till I fart' being heard by sound engineers and passing into BBC legend (and also being reference by Chris Morris in The Day Today with his 'Fact me till I fart' introduction).
Couldn't be Sue but can believe it of Jan Leeming
I remember seeing that walking on eggs live. Incredible that it wa shown, but no less incredible than that the BBC ran a 30 minute News Special about yesterday's snow in place of QofS.

I most certainly did not intend to demean the great Mill Reef Ralph, it was intended to show just how good the Brigadier was that day, though the Brigadier was a miler, or 10 furlongs best, whereas Mill Reef won at every distance from 5f to a mile and a half, including The Derby, the King George, the Arc, the Coronation, and at 10f, the Eclipse. I still believe he was "thrashed" in the Guineas, though the distance was not ideal for Mill Reef. He was a 12f jobbie really.
There was not a distance at which both could be compared really, except perhaps 10 furlongs, but generally, the Guineas excepted, Hislop tried to avoid bumping into Mill Reef. A wise decision I suspect. Mill Reef's career ended in near tragedy, when he broke a leg in training.
Arguably one of his most remarkable wins was as a 2 yo, in the 5f Gimcrack, run that year in bottomless ground, in which he waltzed up hard held by 10 lengths. He won the Prix Ganay by 10 lenths, too.
They were two of the greatest racehorses I have even seen & in some ways, a shame they lived at the same time.
Anyway, we are back to horse racing now, & I'll be in trouble with Tetchy Tom, the
mooshine
drinker. Move on.......

Wow, some memory you have David.
I happened to see it on HIGNFY last night.
HIGNFY seems to be one of those Shows which is timeless, & so relaxing to watch, they choose the Guests with such care, they now rotate the Presenters (though Deayton was different gravy), & in Hislop & Merton, you have two guys who were made for the Show, they are almost national institutions now.
They show repeats endlessly on "Dave", but I think they are excellent TV.
Hislop has THE most engaging smile, smiling is uncool these days amongst many of the younger poker players, as you well know, but I think it is a wonderfully endearing & under-rated human trait. Smiling is free, can cheer up the dullest day & just makes others feel good about life.
Smiles we like.

Grounded!
The entire in-service fleet of Boeing 787 DreamLiners has been grounded.
Only 50 are in service so far, most with Japanese airlines, the USA only have 6 in service so far.
The UK has plenty on order, BA gets their first one in May, WoolyJumper get their first in July, whilst Thomson are first out of the blocks - they hope - with an April delivery which goes into service on, of all days, & pardon the ominous pun,
Mayday.
This is what a BA 787 will look like. Cool, huh?

You were most welcome Matt, I hope it all worked out in the end, a favourable end result was accomplished, & you managed to dock safely.....
DTD today? No, don't think so, I'm in London, the roads are a nightmare, but I might just toodle up there, see how I feel post-nap. I've had a helluva week, & I'm shattered, so probably not.
If I don't come up, make sure you win the lot.

I've never heard the expression 'fuck me till I fart' before. I mean of all the seductive things you could say before commencing the act of making love 'fuck me till I fart' strikes me as rather an odd choice. Especially for two colleagues crammed together in the close confines of a stuffy broom cupboard. I take it only the woman can announce this? The guy saying I am going to fuck you till I fart doesn't sound very sexy.

As you can imagine, as I currently work for Boeing, there has been a lot of tense meetings going on all over the place. We were all sent 2 emails one stating what we can say to everybody if asked and the other stating what's really happening. They were virtually identical.
As they should, Boeing are taking this very seriously and are busting a gut getting to the bottom of this.
BTW they didn't say I could say that.

Bob would be able to answer better, but as he may be a bit tongue-tied because of his job......
Mainly related to the type of battery technology they are using, which have caused several fires, plus there was a few problems with what the popular press called "fuel leaks", but were not fuel leaks as such, more likely operator errors causing venting & overspill during refuelling. Fuel in an aircraft is stored in several different areas, and so it has to be trasnsferred between them on an ongoing basis, all the time, for the purposes of balancing the aircraft.
You will wish you had not asked, but some of the cliffs are here.....

Incidentally, if the cause of the Helicopter crash in London is of any interest......

As with any Forum, you need to sort the wheat from the chaff, there is the usual silly squabbling & point-scoring, & I don't know why folks enjoy being so deliberately rude & argumentative on Forums, (but perfectly reasonable in real life), but between all that, there is some interesting stuff there.

As to the helicopter crash, Sky News came out with a right purler the other day.
It is suspected that the pilot never saw the crane jib which he collided with
