A quote I just stumbled across.

" The man who doesn't read has no advantage over the man who can't read " - Mark Twain

The same man said golf ruined a good walk.

He was a wise man.

I often wonder about this when I'm playing golf in Wollaton Park.

I often see a few runners go by and think to myself "they must be mad" and I'm almost positive that many of them look at the golfers and are thinking exactly the same thing.

So very true!

I was out yesterday for a run.  Some people out walking their dogs looking at me like I'm a loony in my shorts running through the snow.  However, I was nice and warm from my running, whereas they looked cold despite their thick coats and layers.

Probably fair to say that we're all a little mad.

It's OK, I'd scraped the windows and had my lights on Wink

From a fellow 'follicly-challenged' individual, you'll know the snow just slides off!

I'm just back from a couple of miles walk with the dog, snow falling heavy, cold wind, people passing in cars (till I got off the road into the fields) looking at me like I was mad. Loved it. Wrapped up right, had to unzip my coat a bit as I was getting too warm. Wildlife slower to fly/run off meant seeing more, along with seeing tracks. Was heaven to me.

Like you say we're all mad, although not doing something you like because of a bit of weather is probably the maddest thing of them all.

In fact, the weather makes it that little bit better imo.  Fewer other people around, and the scenery's great.

This may not be Penn St, but it's not a bad effort for a rural town in Yorkshire.

Grade 1 Listed, no less, & none other than Betjeman & Pevsner raved over it, as possibly the most splendid railway station in Great Britain.

In Huddersfield, of all places.

It is indeed Harold Wilson.

If you look right from where that shot was taken you would see the George Hotel, birthplace of Rugby League, 1895.

It was built in 1851, sadly closed its doors 2-1-13.

There's some great architecture around the square there, worth a hop off a train definitely.

"The San Francisco Diggers" were a group of anarchistist philanthropists who used to literally give stuff away to needy hippies and the like in the1960's.

The Diggers used to provide a "feed-in" every day at a small park off Haight St. which was known as The Panhandle due to it's shape. You had to bring your own fork or chopsticks to eat with but it was a nourishing and welcome daily meal and of course a chance to meet a new partner for that evening's "sleep-in" Wink

I wouldn't have thought so, but I'm not certain.

I'd have thought it more likely that was a reference to the begging-bowl.

I do hope that's a reference to Dallas and not some kind of rhyming slang.
