I read today that claypole is off to the Gili Islands for a holiday.

The what?

I'd never heard of them.

Ronnie Wood once bought me a pint.

I was standing waiting to be served (geddit?) at a bar at Wimbldon during the tennis tournament.

Ronnie rolls up to the bar with Jimmy White and Ronnie O'Sullivan.

The girl serving immediately goes to gt his order, jumping the queue massively.

Ron says. "I'll pay for everyone's drink who was due to be served before me"

By chance, I spent a day last week with one of those three people you mentioned. Mixing with the stars, oh yes. Ish.

He's a bit older than me but I didn't realise he was your age, damn he looks good.

I had an invite to go back to his house where he had a snooker table but never took him up on it, although it was a very casual "you must come round and have a game sometime.." sort of conversation about three or four drinks into the evening.

At the time you mention, iirc correctly, he had a place in Kingston, which he used to share from time to time with Keith Richards. They were a lovely quiet couple, according to the neighbours.

As it happens Jim, no, space travel holds not a jot or tickle of interest to me.

Bridges & motorway gantries, that would be a different matter.

Or even very big holes in the ground, preferably a quarry.

i didn't expect the space travel itself to intrest you as such, but i did assume the actual structure of the space station would be of great interest.

I know it might not be pleasing to the eye as soon many great structures around the world are, but just physically getting it to where it needs to be and able to do what it does has to make it a wonder of the world.

At the time I mentioned Ron was playing with Rod Stewart and The Faces.

He didn't actually join The Stones until 1975/76.

I think his house was in or around the Fulham Road but I couldn't swear to it.

Strangely enough I have been watching The world at war Tony, do you remember it, was a 1973-74 series on ITV?

According to Wiki on completion it was the most expensive TV series ever made.

I am ashamed to say I know so little about any of the world war's and this series is amazing, there are 11 discs in the box set, top value at under 30 quid. I have watched about 16 of the episodes so far, I was amazed today watching an episode on the battle for Leningrad that 4,000 people a day died in the city in January 1941.

There have been some incredible stories so far, the battle for Stalingrad was another huge victory by Russia against the odds. It evolved into a kind of chess game with the Russians desperately trying to hold out thru the summer until the Russian winter kicked in and the Germans were so badly under prepared for that it gave the Russian's a huge edge. Hitler refused to let his troops that were surrounded in Stalingrad surrender so it got so bad in the later stages the troops were eating raw dead animals.

It's a pretty humbling feeling watching it esp when you come from knowing so little of the war as I do.
