I am SO cross with myself Tom, I can still scarce believe it.
I MUST have put it on yesterday morning wehen I got up, I keep it by the bed at night, but around mid-morning I realised it was missing.
I serarched around all the obvious places in the office, went to Lost Property, nothing. Rushed home, looked again, nowhere to be seen.
Never mind.

When do you take the watch off during the day, normally? Washing hands? Showering?
When was the last time you definitely remember interacting with the watch (either putting it on, taking it off, or looking at the time?)

Do you take it off to wash your hands after you've left the house? If not it probably means the strap or one of the spring bars failed.
Terribly frustrating and upsetting, but ultimately not your fault.

This will sound bad, but.....I take it off a lot.
If I am playing (Live) poker, I take it off & place it by my chips. At home, I remove it & put it on the coffee table, in bed, on the bedside table, at work, I place it on my desk, right next to my mouse. Always have done, for years, I am uncomfy wearing a watch, & only mentally relax properly when I remove it. (Don't ask).
So I remove it a lot - but I NEVER leave it, I always pick it up when I move around, as a woman does a handbag.
Now it gets complicated, because we have the builders in at work, our office is being revamped, & there are hairy-arse builders (I was one once...) everywhere. It was suggested to me that one of those may have lifted it, so to speak, but I have become familiar with them, & I just know they would not steal it.
When did I last recall interacting with it? I only recall looking at it, mid-morning, & it was not there. It is inconceivable that I never put it on first thing yesterday, after my morning shower, so I must have lost it somewhere.
I fiddle with the strap a lot - a nervous mannerism when I get stressed, which is a lot at the moment - so I guess I must have somehow broken the strap & it fell off somewhere.

I think the spring bar failed, because I kept fiddling with it.
I am comforted by your empathy, thank you, but it IS my fault, there is nobody else to blame.
It's just a sentimental thing, no big deal I suppose. It was only the second watch I have ever had, I had the previous one for 40 years, until I got the Retirement one. I get illogically attached to things. Or, in this case, unattached.

Same thing happened to one of my members but it was a really expensive Tag. Next day he brought some posters in with a pic of the watch and his contact details. I thought hmmm you are wasting your time partner. About a week later another member came in and just put it on the counter. If it really is of importance to you it might be worth a bit of effort to do that and stick a couple up at work, you might be surprised. Thought you would be a pocketwatch guy, something Victorian perhaps.

On the upside, you can now move into the modern age and get one of those digital watches that the cool kids wear.

I recall when they first arrived on the scene, all the
kool kids
had one.
You had to press a little button on the side of the watch to illuminate the LED didplay.
Was there ever a more useless invention?
