Never had a meal with me?

That hurts Sad

Ill forgive you if you can remember where it was. Here's a clue,

What?

Breakfast is NOT a meal. Especially when it is by a window overlooking the Runway @ Gatters. Did you know that Gatters is the busiest SINGLE RUNWAY airport in Europe?

Course I remember.

I shall assume I am forgiven.

Note....

1) How happy you look when eating.

2) Were you trying to give up smoking at the time?

3) Note you tried to blag a seat next to me, upstairs, & got ejected. Lovely monent.

I suppose it is part of the ageing process (I've succeeded in ageing), but these old photos bring back so many happy memories for me. I could peruse my old photos all day. Every picture really does tell a story.

I hope things are as well as can be expected at home bud.

An interesting video - the map of Europe from 1000AD to today.

Wow, thanks Rod.

I was never interested in History, at school or after, so much of that surprised me.

Even those who did take an interest would surely be surprised by Irelend, & I mean Ireland the island.

Watching that from start to finish, I doubt any island has changed "ownership" so many times, it changes constantly from start to finish, & the current division is fairly recent. It'd be a brave man who suggested that constant changing had ended. Time - in this case 1,100 years, or say, just 20 "lifetimes", we get a much better perspective of things.

How do you find these things? Do you surf the internet a lot?

If it had gone back further Ireland would have been even more fluid - was a lot of small kingdoms for a lot of its history. Also missed the viking settlements in the UK (just).

I liked seeing the multitude of smaller states that became Prussia & then Germany - I wonder if it was the move from small countries to one big one that led to Prussia & then Germany being so expansionist?

Also seeing the Mongols Golden Horde come in & then go again, and thinking there wasn't much in a position to stop them, if the Great Khan  hadn't died, Europe was toast. Knights who fought in a great melee taking on a fast organised horde of excellent archers with gunpowder weapons to boot... One man living another 5-10 years & our history would be so different.

I spend a lot of time on the net, and on very different forums, a football one which is alternately very political or just plain daft, this one, and a 'Bushcraft' forum which looks at the countryside, camping, and a lot of handicrafts. There's always something coming up interesting between them. The above link came from one of the Celtic Supporters in Los Angeles....

And Red in one sentence

I take photos of all sorts of trivial crap, not because they are good photos, but because they are memories that I can re visit.

They become more valuable as time passes. Imagine if you had a few thousand every day ones from 30 /40 years ago?

Yup.

I probably have several thousand, & I visit them frequently.

Guess some would say that makes me a bit of a saddo, but there are amazing riches in those memories. Real gold.

Don't have any photos of kettles though. There has to be a limit, right?

Have you settled back in after your holiday? Heating on yet? Weight steady @ 16 stone+?

THat's where altzheimers terrifies me, I've not got that many photos, lots got lost in house moves, or relationship breakups, but I've got a damn good memory & can revisit lots of stuff easilly, the thought of losing that scares me more than anything else of ageing.

Wow - my absolute greatest fear.

I "test myself" almost daily, with mixed responses, truth to tell. Please God, don't take me that way. It scares the shit out of me.  I'm the target age for it, to. Ugh.

Sigh!

Don't get him started on the altzheimers, he'd forgotten about that.

My future missus is a bit younger than me & the idea of her having to take care of me adds another bit of fear to the losing my memories one. She's on strict instructions that I'm to be banged in a home & she can get on with her life in the event I lose my marbles. Not that I'm planning on going gaga any time soon, I'm only 43.

...

Your comment about the smaller states that ended up becoming Germany reminded me of this book

It has those countries in it as well as others in Europe that used to exist - it's a very interesting read.

That kestrel that I have been somewhat unsuccessfully stalking on the golf course armed with my brownie 127 for the last week has now revealed to me that is in fact a pair which should logically speaking make it twice as easy to photograph. Obv. I have no pics yet to speak of.

I thought at first that the kestrel was chasing another bird as one of them has a grey underside which was the bit I could see until it settled high up in a leafy tree and assumed it's brown colour.

Is that grey underside a clue as to exactly what breed it is or simply male/female difference?

The female is less grey usually, and sometimes a  bit darker.

Think these photos are from Captain Kirk's "Birdforum".

Male - I suspect.

Female. Probably.

Thanks Rod, that makes sense as the one that I originally thought was grey was smaller which I believe the males are.
