Saw the Great British Ukelele Orchestra at Glastonbury about 8yrs ago - lovely stuff.
What did you wear at Glasters?
Just curious, like.......
8 years ago? You must still have been at school then, surely?
Oh this was in the pre-tweed years, don't think I even wore colourful trousers. In fact, I know it was 2005 now I think given it was one of the wettest of all time and I went with just a pair of trainers. Marv. Cracking fun mind, went another time around then, '07 I think, then again this summer. Bit more civilised this time around, I had wellies and everything.
I'm older than you'd think Teeks, just got a baby-face and a Gary Neville-Raquel inability to grow facial hair!
2005 was also the biggest attendance. 153,000
sweaty dopeheads who always have a free seat next to them on the bus
eager music lovers. Headlining...Coldplay.
Whoops.
But, Basement Jaxx were replaced by Kylie. How well did you run?!
I was bang at the front for Basement Jaxx, was excellent, if a little 'chaotic'.
Sorry. I got that the wrong way round. Basement Jaxx replaced Kylie and I now remember why. Apologies all. Completely unintended.
Glad you enjoyed it.

I almost ended the story with "
so Rose is right up there with Middy as a Hero(ine
)", though I decided it would sound wrong & devalue the tale. Don't want folks thinking I believe "hero" & "legend" is used too lightly these days, do we? That would never do.
How are things at home now, Vinni? You got your appetite back yet?

My old chess coach used to go mad at the labelling of anyone as a
legend
.
"If they are a legend, they can't, by definition, exist", he would snort
Quite a character himself, Peter. As you say, but that is for another day.

You've had a bad effect on me Tikay, walking down the street at lunch & the Local pub owner passes and tells me a steam locomotive is passing in a couple of minutes.
Apparently on it's way to winter storage from the tourist runs in the Highlands over the summer.

Very nice!
What Station & line is that, Rod? The Line seems well maintained, gravel nicely tamped, platform edges nicely white lined, some flower boxes, perfectly lovely.
Here's some Photos & a Video of the very same Loco, even a Video of her running tender first.

Sanquhar Station on the alternative Glasgow Carlisle line (via Dumfries) - it's at the bottom of my road. Scotrail do keep it well maintained, and local's keep the flowers looking good.
Been a lot of work over the last few years on the line, a crumbling viaduct, and some collapsing bankings in the area have led to a lot of work, especially as they want to use the line for mainline services while they work on the main Glasgow-Motherwell-Carlisle line.

Rose would have invented Amazon if the daft old goat could have turned a laptop on. The good lady and Warren truly took the arse out of retailing. Great read again tikay. I am going back to page 1 for a laugh.

Britain On Film is showing on BBC4 currently and there's a piece on Lapland and the locals featuring the nurturing and racing of their reindeer including one little bit about the "branding and gelding for which no other instrument other than human teeth is used"
Presumably that did not include the branding.

Not even sure I want to begin to imagine that Ralph.
There was a truly wonderful programme on Eden last night, "Elephant Orphanage". Doubt I can recall a more moving Animal documentary. Elephants have a very strong family & social bond, & when they lose parents, the babies usually struggle to adapt, or even live.
An Orphanage in Kenya rescues them, & rehabilitates them, finding (elephant) surrogate mothers, before eventually releasing them in the wild.
The place is run by a remarkable lady, Dame Daphne Sheldrick.

National Geographic did a piece on the Orphanage, here....

Best piece of TV I've seen in yonks. I might just start a thread about the Show, to rival the "Breaking Bad" threads. No spoilers, mind.
