At least we got the thread going. Bit like two old ladies shuffling round their handbags on an otherwise empty dancefloor

Just seen George from Luton post the GUKPT festival schedule

Surely you have to make it down for these 2?

Wed 16 Oct at 7.30 pm
£ 200 + 20 No Limit Hold'em - Six Max

Thu 17 Oct at 6.00 pm
£ 150 + 15 Pot Limit Omaha

And I'm sure there will be the usual DC running too.

Vinny might even let you buy him dinner....

He had better Ryan his seat has been empty for too long.

Ahh, bless, thanks Dave, & Ryan.

I have to be in Leeds @ 0800 on the Thursday, so I'm not sure I can play either, but if I can move the Meeting, I'll definitely try & come up.

I miss Live poker very much, but I just get so tired when I'm there all night, it takes me days to recover.

I still play Online, most every night actually. Just little PLO8 DYM's @ £5.50 & £11, & they are remarkably hard to beat, & I just about wash my face, but I find them wonderfully relaxing, & it fulfils my desire for that bit of buzz we get when we play.

I try & play very technically correct, especially as to starting hand criteria, & the villains turn up with all sorts of eclectic holdings. Still gotta dodge the bullets though.

They play very shallow, so not much room for error. I re-potted a guy yesterday, I had the EXACT perfect stack size to get it in, & I just about covered him. Not surprised to get a call, but did a double take when I saw his hand - 10-9-3-3. Orf! Great fun though, & I can switch off from woes & worries when playing these.

PLO8 must be the lowest variance form of poker going, & I often rack up 5 or 6 straight wins, but I also hit big losing runs - think I managed to lose 13 out of 15 one day recently. How that work?!

Suppose it is the same as that logic where we all think we are good drivers, & everyone else is a bad driver. I honestly think I have a basic competence at the game (PLO8), but still find it hard to win consistently.  I deffo have a huge leak - lack of aggression - but maybe I'm not as good as I think I am in the other areas of the game.

Ryan - any luck in the EPT? I heard you were north of 100,000 at one stage.

Jim - any news on when you will get your visa sorted, & get back to Vegas?

This thread still going?
Yes. But not for long.

Our hero is missing about 40 odd sphincters. If he doesn't hold tight he could start leaking everywhere.

Honestly, until that thread, I thought we only had one of the bloody things. Seems we have dozens of the buggers.

I just google-imaged "sphincter". Ugh. Not pretty, I tell ya.

I played golf at Moor Allerton in Leeds on Monday and as we approached the ninth green I noticed what appeared to be a giant kestrel hovering and circling above. One of my playing partners who is a local informed me that it was a red kite.

Didn't get a pic but what a beautiful big bird that is.

One of my favourite birds Ralph.

They seem to exist in little "pockets", there is a colony (?) in Northamptonshire, beside the M1, & another next to the M40, in Oxforsdshire. They have even been sighted in London recently. Think this is because efforts have been made to re-introduce them (see also Post by Acidmouse). Think they thrive on roadkill, too, which may explain why they nest so close to several Motorways. Not sure I approve of human interference, interfering with Nature has a bad record, but they are an incredible bird, & have a beautiful flying action, & the re-introduction of them in the UK has been hailed as a big success.

They are often described as the UK's most beautiful bird. Not sure I buy that, but it's close.

Ralph actually took a photo of the Red Kite he spotted, & sent it to me. Here you go.

I was going to c+p the questions I asked in Tom's excellent diary over here but I just assumed this thread was dead.

No need.

They really were great questions. My answers would have been incred, too.

How's the love affair these days with this enigmatic genius?

Have been on a wiki tour today and ended up here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skunk_works

Don't think I've heard of any of this before, beyond the phrase itself.

That SR-71 was a funny looking thing, wasn't it?

Are you into military 'planes as well as commercial?

Yes, but not so much fighters, & "warplanes", as the big buggers, the Transporters & Tankers, that sort of thing. Many of them are Military Variants of Commercial versions.

Look at this beauty - I'd marry one of these in a heartbeat. Or at the very least have a grope.

Another one of the time lapse geography/history vids. Quite amazing - big mistake invading Russia, and with the massive successes of the Russians, you can see how the D-Day landings got a foothold.

I have actually learned more from that then I ever learned at school, wonderful way of showing it.

With perspective, we have to wonder what the Germans were thinking as to indaving Russua, ditto the Japanese invading the USA.

There are some historical decisions that are, in hindsight, so bad they are comical. Or would be if millions of civilians had not perished.

I wonder how the Media would handle a land war in the UK these days, God forbid?

There was a big hoohah in all the Media last week about a Tourist boat that caught fire in the Thames, in London, "breaking news" & the full works.

I read the whole thing, & it blew me away.

People had to jump into the waist deep water.....

Some survivors were in the water for as long as 20 minutes.....

The survivors needed counselling too, apparently.

Survivors & counselling, my arse.

Grandad Angell was telling me the story one day of when a German WWII bomb hit his house in Shepherds Bush, landed smack in the coal cellar & the house collapsed, luckily with no fatalities, but they lost all their posessions, not to mention the home they had lived in all their life.

"Ooh, I was really cross" he said. Proper cross, I imagine. Almost annoyed, like.

It was only 200 years ago that the USA doubled in size, thanks to Napoleon. He'd come to power in 1799 and wanted to fund yet more wars in Europe but was getting short of cash. France owned the middle third of the US, then known as Louisiana (for King Louis - not the orangutan). So desperate was he - perhaps so driven by the greed of conquering all of Europe - that he sold that entire strip of land...(the green bit)

...for $15m. That's just 3 cents an acre!

I'm sure I've mentioned this before but it'll never cease to amaze me. Could you imagine if Napoleon had been exiled before then or the USA had got greedy and refused to buy? That whole bit would be a French territory.
