I'm the complete reverse: sell-by date is belly or bin

Same, far too much goes in the bin by me for sure.

I think this and cutting mould off food are both extreme ends of the scale - I prefer the middle option; if food is still good on it's sell by date then it can still be eaten, but when it has started to deteriorate then it gets binned.

Scraping the mould off the surface of hard cheese is slightly different to "cutting mould off food" although it might sound quite similar.

It's simply a matter of knowing your food.

In 1903, someone filmed a piece of stilton close up.

I wish I could unsee this. <3 Stilton.

mouldy bread = bin (although this isn't really a problem as I tend to follow Simon's put-straight-in-the-freezer regime.  Added bonus is that you can buy the bread really cheap when it's reduced before doing this Smiley

cutting the mouldy and hard bits off cheddar and eating the good stuff is absolutely fine, obv.

I am off to find some evidence that cheese mites are either a hoax or at least no longer exist.

Here's something for you - Mike Brearley gave a speech about the nature of competitiveness in cricket. A very interesting read.

On one of my random internet wanders, I came across this. Nothing massively interesting but one job of his did make me smile.

Nick Powell, also credited as Nicholas Powell, is a champion swordsman who has trained many Hollywood actors, including Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe and Mel Gibson. Powell served as stunt co-ordinator for Muppet Treasure Island, and performed the right hand of Kermit the Frog (as Captain Abraham Smollett) during his swordfight with Long John Silver.

Expert in martial arts as well as weaponry, Powell's credits as a stunt performer include Batman, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Judge Dredd. As a stunt coordinator or swordsmaster, his resume includes Braveheart, Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet, The Mummy, The Last Samurai, Gladiator, Cinderella Man, and 28 Days Later

So, the highlight of your career, & life?

Oh, that's easy, I was Kermit the Frog's right hand.

Here's something for you - Mike Brearley gave a speech about the nature of competitiveness in cricket. A very interesting read.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/681907.html

What a wonderul piece that is Andrew, thanks.

I implore any fan of good writing or oration to have a read.

He must command a goodly sum as an after-dinner speaker. I'd love to try that, but not until I'm a little older, & acquire the gravitas of age & worldly wisdom, of course.

Hope everyone takes a few minutes to read that piece by Brears. He is starting to look very old now, it seems only yesterday he was doing his thing in the England Test Team. He was not exactly Mr Personality, but he had great backbone & character.

For those old enough, these three photos will evoke some wonderful memories, most especially the middle one, which must surely be that famous "once in a lifetime" Test @ Headingley?

In for the £75?

Tonight? If you are, I am.

It is my ambition to crush a young whippersnapper like you at the poker tables. Tonight is that night.

I'll be playing any two, and I do mean ANY two.*

* Obviously, has be be Jacks or better.

I've been a bit embarrassed by your questions as to me playing the Main Event, actually, as things have gotten a bit complicated this weekend, hence I dodged your question repeatedly, sorry.

A major Diary clash arose, between the SPT Final, & the "Fred Dogs Dinner Weekend". Inevitably, Next Door kindly invbted me to play the Event, which I would have absolutely LOVED. But I cant, as I have to excuse myself for Saturday evening for the Fred Dinner thing.

Proper bugger that, how do these things happen?

So, DTD tonight, & again until teatime tomorrow, then bomb down to Wimbledon for the evening, then back up to DTD for Day Two, on Sunday.

They (who are these they people?) told me life would slow down when I approached dotage. I must be younger than I thought, life has never been so hectic. Too hectic, in truth, cue Red nagging me subtly again.

Hi Tikay,

hope all is well with you.

I happened upon something the other day that I thought might be of interest.  I live very close to RAF Northolt, and quite often see plane spotters and the like hanging around.  One evening this week as Hannah and I were walking past there seemed to be a lot more activity than usual with several people taking pictures with long lenses through the fencing near the runway and, further down near the entrance, a fair sized crowd of people gathered round and a long queue of cars waiting to get in.  Hannah wanted to hang around as her train of thought somehow led her to conclude that Lady Gaga or someone of her ilk must be due to land there Cheesy

A bit of research after I got home told me that they were holding a 'night shoot' - an opportunity for people to come in and take pictures of nice (I guess) planes after dark.  I could just see you there among all the other anoraks enthusiasts

http://www.touchdown-aviation.com/reports/2013/raf-northolt-night-photoshoot-xiv.php

Claire!

Good to se you.

Would you believe I go to Northolt Airport & do the geeky photo sessions? Extremist stuff, that.

How is Hannah? Reached the bra & boys age yet? Jeez, you have some stress ahead!

Was playing Online on Friday night & Holdy Foldy was on my table, wonderful banter. I miss her very much, we keep arranging to hook up for coffee, but I never quite get round to it. Same with you, really. Stop standing me up, right?

You won that SPT Grand Final seat yet?  Soft tourney, full of satellite qualifiers., Satellite qualifiers are all fish of course, & everyone on Sky Poker is a fish apparently, soft site see? Do it now, ok?

Well if you're ever up Northolt way again then give me a buzz - you'd be more than welcome to drop by.

Yes, Michelle is a wonderful soul and a true friend for life. I owe so much to blonde really - my best mate, my fiance and my job - all have come into my life thanks for this forum.  Quite strange to think of things in that way really.

No SPT for me - I did toy with the idea briefly, but I have a meeting scheduled next Sunday to discuss something quite important to me on a personal level, which may lead to other things.

Coffee soon please - you know where to find me - just let me know when you're free.  I'm due to hook up with holdy again fairly soon, so perhaps the three of us could meet one evening? Would be lovely to see you x

Morning Claire, & I'm sorry for the delayed reply.

That highlighted part is quite poignant, & very true, actually, so many friendships have been consummated via blonde, some quite literally I guess. It was a lovely thing to say, too.

Coffee is booked, of course, we'll do it, & I HAVE to have coffee & a natter with Holdy Foldy, I keep bumping iunto her on tables Next Door, but can't really chat there properly, poker chatboxes have all sorts of strange lurkers.
