I am with Tal for orchestral.

Ahh, more orchestral maneouvres.

I get the point, but it does not seem to suggest "harshly" does it?

I'm still going with the texted suggestion.

The answer he has given fits "carthorse term" & "harshly" perfectly.

Just read the article. Is clearly a cryptic clue.

Harshly is one of a number of words used to indicate to the solver that there's an anagram in the clue. Confused, muddled, unclear, tangled and so on.

Ahh - so I did. Comma, colon, all much the same things, right?

Anyway, everyone should instantly get the answer now.

Did you watch Marvelous last night Tikay?

No, but I recorded it to watch this weekend.

If I'm not mistaken, "Neil Baldwin" (Stoke City kitman) got a mention on blonde last week, in a write up about Stoke City?

EDIT - just found it, it was on the Newcastle FC Thread, hidden amongst all the lavish praise being heaped upon Sir Mike & poor old Mr P.

I suspect Tal already has though. I was joking about the colon btw. I doubt it's important. But then I'm not very good at cryptic crosswords.

Crossword clue, answer required.

Carthorse term in football, used harshly of many players (10)

Mertersacker is 12

Not if you spell it correctly, still 11 tho'.

Ha!

Pwned, as expected.

BTW, I have no idea about this crossword clue. The colon is supposed to imply it's a word meaning a carthorse. However, punctuation is often used as a deceptive device in cryptic clues to throw you off the scent.

It is never easy to get one one over Methuselah. He was threatening a bookie with stink bombs, of all things, yesterday.

So, we are agreed, you don't know the answer.

Bet Tighty gets it. Or Vinni.

Orchestral sounds like the right answer

Carthorse is an anagram or Orchestra which has "many players", "used harshly" merely means its an anagram

"term in football" is what the l in orchestral here is derived from but I am not sure why, perhaps its a grammatical term, re the use of -ll?

Oh dear.

Well if Team Erudite all come up with "orchestral", & the Times crossword setter chappie says it is his favourite clue, perhaps you are all right.

I'm still going with the one sent to me.

Do you guys want the (potential) reveal?
