Did you watch Marvelous last night Tikay?

No, but I recorded it to watch this weekend.

Have you watched this yet? I've just seen it and I loved it.

Yup - proper piped my eye, lovely, lovely, story.

who and where is this?

As a kid in the sixties I used to stand to the right of the goal post at the front of the Stoke end, had a rattle and all. Remember them?

In later years it was from the paddock I watched my heroes. I remember with regret when we had to sell Jimmy Greenhoff to Man Utd when the roof partially blew off the Butler Street stand. As it turned out the club was under insured and needed the transfer money to repair it.

Wow, football rattles, we never went to a match without one. They'd be banned as an offensive weapon now.

And Jimmy Greenhoff, what a player! He had long hair & everything.

Tell you what Kev, you can remain on this Diary. Celtic can FRO though, I'm not taking any dissing from him.

Given they also have Costa Coffees in Waterstone, this is my nerdish idea of heaven.

Brilliant!

I can think of far worse places to be trapped inside. A lift, with Sting & Bono, for starters. Think I'd kill them, or myself.

Do you listen to Desert Island Discs?

Kirsty, amazingly, has been there 7 years now. I still remember dear old Roy doing it, I thought he was irreplaceable, but Kirsty does a grand job.

I'm always fascinated by the "one luxury & one book" thing.

What would YOU take, if you were locked away, on your own somewhere, for a year or so?

By the bye, I loved your piece on Poker Strategy about Spin & Go's.

You coming to Chris Moorman's Book Launch @ The Vic next Wednesday? I'll be there with a camera from 861, & we've got Chris booked early, before it starts. If you are there, we'd love a piece to camera from you. Smarten yourself up though, it's The Vic, not Naps @ Sheffield, right?

You'd be OK Tone, you get the complete works of Shakespeare automatically.

Do you remember that pair of binoculars I loaned you a few years ago when you were spending most of your spare time stalking ducks and herons Tony?

I most certainly do Ralph, I believe I still have them too.

Is it almost time I returned them?

Well don't laugh but I do occasionally like to do a bit of star-gazing and I watched "The Sky at Night" last evening which reminded me.

Maybe you could pop them in the boot next time you visit Nottingham.

I'd take the luxury of a kindle with a shit ton of books on it. If that wasnt gaming the system.

If you liked the Spin&Go thing you may like the one I've done today off the back of it, fully expecting to have a few people dislike me for it (the sorta people who didnt enjoy the tax thread).

Dunno about the Vic, I have been invited but completely forgot. Its a school night too.

Lol, I thought of that the moment Ralph posted!

I'll sort it when I get back in the Office, apologies.

Will do, I've got to go see Rob in the next week or two, so I'll bring them up. They are already in the car, as it happens.

Yes, I'm sure that will go down well........

Proper Yorkshireman, you, say what you think & don't care what people think.

"misplaced sense of entitlement" is an extraordinary thing.

I saw a comment the other day, well I see it all the time, but it was about "rake races", & everyone moans & groans about how "hard" they are. But nobody is forced to take part in them, players do so because they want the rewards offered, which is fair enough. But they can't have their cake & eat it. Extra money is available, but you have to devote extra time & effort to get it. What's wrong with that?

That's no different to doing overtime at work. If you want the extra money, you have to work for it. I can't see the problem. Why take part if you don't like them?

When I see a recreational player say "I HATE THESE RAKE RACES" but then devoting 18 hours per day playing them, I'm a bit bemused, to be honest.

As to whether Sites SHOULD run rake races, that's another matter altogether, but they are businesses, & they have a duty to do what they can to maximise earnings. They (try) to do that by offering things people want. If players did not play them, or want them, the sites would not run them. It's that simple.

I just noticed on Poker Strategy (sorry, I rarely visit it!), that Phil Shaw is one of your coaches. Blimey, he's been around the block a few times. Does he still coach SNG's? When I first began on 'Stars, 2002 or so?, I just played SNG's & Phil was one of the regulars back then. Not many survive that long, so well done him.

We hooked up in Italy one year, in Jesolo, for a poker festival, & Phil won "Player of the Festival" or somesuch. We all went out to dinner after it ended, Phil, Thewy, Colclough, Robert Binelli, John Conroy, Kabbaj, Shipley, Rhowena, me, & a few others. There was a bit of fun when the bill came round, as we all agreed to "chop" the bill equally. Phil, who had just won the Main Event, complained that he had only had a pizza & his "cut" should be less, lol. He coughed up in the end, but it did tickle me.

We had a bit of a fallout later that night that though, we were all sitting outside, on the beach, chatting & chilling. Robert Benelli lit this giant spliff, & it was being passed round to everyone for a drag. I'm cool with that, but I just passed it on, as I did not want to partake, it's not my thing, but I don't mind what others do, nowt to do with me. He got a bit arsey with me about it, gave me the peer pressure thing, "what is the matter with having a bt of weed?". It all got a bit edgy, but we were fine later.

We went back the next year actually, with a film crew from Poker 425 (Wm Hill TV), but the Police arrived, raided the place, (it was all a bit illegal) & the festival got abandoned.

There, you've started me rambling again.

Phil Shaw hasnt coached for us in a long time, I think he just never left officially so we havent updated the page.

The entitlement, online trolling and narcissim are a trifecta of modern day behaviours that I am truly fascinated in. Probably the biggest area you can spot all three in all their glory is internet comments.

If you ever get stuck on that desert island, this would be a great one to work through. This guy bookmarks all his favourite stories of those three things:

https://delicious.com/ramitsethi/freeloaders

This is pretty interesting stuff:

http://www.softwarebyrob.com/2010/12/09/how-to-detect-a-toxic-customer/

And to your point, yes I have never understood why people take such offence at things (like rake races) that they were never going to partake in anyway. I chat to Mr Channing about this quite a lot and he has lots to say on the subject (Recent quote: "Do they really run past Selfridges shouting you're too expensive I'm not coming in, that stuff should be free.").
