Back to Oceanside, what a lovely spot it was, the palm trees, the soft sandy beach, a lovely Condo, and the warm Pacific, with it's gentle waves, & so we spent a goodly while just messing about in the sea.

This was the moment I had planned, I had made this decision exactly a year ago, & kept it quiet, never mentioned a word to Gill, but I wanted to do it here, that was always the plan, so that's when I said "shall we do it, then?" She looked at me gone out.

And so we did, we got engaged, there & then, right there, in the Pacific Ocean. It's nice when a plan comes together so perfectly.

Anyway, enough of that soppy nonsense, the trip continued, & we had other things to do. Little were we to know that another magic evening awaited.

Dinner - again, this had been planned many months ago - was at a place called Ruby's Diner, on the very end of Oceanside Pier.

The Pier is a Municipal Fishing Pier.

Ruby's Diner is a chain of 50's style Diners, where the waitresses dress up & act in 50's style. It was perfect, exactly what we had hoped.

I celebrated by having fish & chips.

And, as it was a 50's Diner, banana split for afters.

Gill managed a miniature fruit sundae.

We thought that may be more than enough excitement for one day, but we were wrong......

Has all the trains stuff finished? Can I start reading again?

Congratulations by the way. You are a very lucky man.
Very best of luck to Gill.

As we wandered back along the pier, we saw this little fella.

No idea what it is, but I'm guessing an egret? Anyone know?

He's a beauty, eh? Happy to pose, too.

If that's how the night got even better, this is a bigger anticlimax than the end of Goodfellas.

Looks very much like an egret to me, so probably a wren.  Congratulations

Just when we thought we could not see any more of nature's wonders, we spotted this fella - a pelican of all things. Sadly, I could not get the right side of the light. He was pretty tame, too.

We soon saw whole flocks of them, skimming low across the water, dozens of them. What a thing to see, wow.

And THEN all that was topped by, would you believe, a school of dolphins, just doing that porpoising thing off the end of the pier. There were 30 or 40, & they stayed for 15 or 20 minutes.

Magic? Just a bit.

Egret, Pelican, Dolphins, & a banana split, all within an hour. How good is that?

Sadly, the dolphins proved a little difficult to photograph. I have around 50 photos of them, all like this, a tad short of perfect in fairness. Just use your imagination.

More nature photographs to come, we saw so many different animals, birds & the like.

Plenty more Amtrak photos too. Plenty.

Congratulations Tony! Sounds like you've booked a massive win already, the poker is just a bit of fun by comparison.
