I've just spoken with Mrs Mohican about Kenyons. My wife is an Embalmer and had all the paperwork filled out and approved by her bosses to go on the call out rosters for Kenyons, then the little princess turned up and delayed that. It seems they have a wide variety of skilled people on their books, not just the Funeral trade. Doctors,Dentists,Fireman,Policeman,Divers, search and rescue teams. I don't know a lot more but I'd be happy to ask beloved any questions you have.
I used to read a lot of Kathy Reichs books and one of those was going over an airplane crash site.
Fiction Teeks, not your thing I know but Kathy Reichs is a forensic anthropologist.

Mrs Mohica is an Embalmer, and you were an Undertaker?
What was the office Christmas party like?
Just gets better, this.

I don't even know what an anthropologist is.
I just googled it and I am none the wiser.
I'd bet good money she does not know the British Standard number for salt glazed earthenware drainage and air bricks though. (BS 493).

Anthropologists study bones. Think you got her on the drainage and air bricks

Same as any I've been to. Knobs you don't normally socialise with getting drunk and telling you what's wrong with the company and how they'd run it different. One of the reasons why I no longer socialise with my work colleagues.

Not to make light of what is a very serious matter, but a black comedy thought entered my mind as to those Disaster & Emergency businesses.
Business is not so good right now, then a 'phone call comes into the Managing Director to say "we need you, full works, a Jumbo Jet has crashed with the loss of all souls on board".
Does he have a little cry, or go high-five the Accountant?
He is running a business that needs to grow profits, so a little bit of him must be pleased.
Much the same, I suppose, as a Funeral Director might, in some small way, not be too upset if a deadly epidemic hits his locality.
I know someone who runs a funeral directors, it is literally the best business in the world to be in, from a steady income point of view. They've never had any rough patches and have been fully booked up for the better part of 40 years (It's a family business).
They also have their building on the same road as the local church, which is on the same road as the local cemetary, meaning they have streamlined the whole process, never are late and save lots of money on petrol and whatnot.
Chuffing loaded they are.

They'd be buggered if someone found a cure for death though.
First thing you learn at business school, all businesses are cyclical.*
* Except food, and funeral parlours. And embalmers.

True. And business is really really good in extremely bad weather.

All this funeral talk reminds me of my favourite TV show; Six Feet Under.
Superlative television. Not for everyone, but if you 'get' it, it stays with you. Does make you think about things that might not otherwise cross your mind.
Probably not your cup of tea Tony

Same as any I've been to. Knobs you don't normally socialise with getting drunk and telling you what's wrong with the company and how they'd run it different. One of the reasons why
I no longer socialise with my work colleagues.
I work with a really fun bunch of guys, no question about it, but I don't EVER socialise with any of them. It gets quite embarrassing having to say "no thanks" to every invitation, be it Xmas parties, birthday parties, & so called "fun evenings".
Eventually they stopped inviting me. Now I feel all left out, & hurt, but if they did invite me, I'd still decline.
I mean, it's not like I'm a miserable old git or anything, is it?

For whatever reason, work related socialising always leads to the biggest hangovers. Maybe its all the deeply rooted tension and resentment means everyone picks up the pace more.
You should try working from home, you'd kill for a work social do once in a while.

Don't think so, but it may be connected with the raid on a "poker club" in Kingston last December.
It was very much like Gutshot, or the old Western (is that still around?), whereby they masquerade as a pool club in order to run poker games.

I work (work?) from home more often than not these days, only go into the Office 2 or 3 days a week.
Love the solitude, & I can get on with this better at home, I don't get tempted to go sit & watch TV or anything. And can wear sloppy joes, tracky bottoms are so comfy.
I don't miss social do's one bit, I've never enjoyed them, I'm a bit of a social misfit, small talk does my head in, small talk & alcohol is the nut worst combo. Funny thing is, when I attend a poker event I'm like a dog with two tails, I just love chatting to folks I've not seen in a while.
In Vegas this year, I actually tried to do some of my own "social stuff", I organised something with my colleagues, first time in years, but that was a proper fail. Story may or may not follow. It's a bit zzzz to others, but just struck a chord with me.
