Jeremy Corbyn collects pictures of cast iron man hole covers

surely this raises him in your estimation massively?

A little.........

Do you know (this is boring even by my standards) but I was a Builders Merchants Apprentice between the ages of 17 to 19, & I had to learn all about stuff like Manhole Covers & Frames.  And 50 years on, without going to mr google, I still know the British Standard for them - BS 497.

And I knew them inside out - they were classified - light (pedestrian traffic) medium (side roads) & heavy (trunk roads), Class A/B/C.

Square or rectangular, inset or recessed, keys to lift them, da de da.

The all time sexiest manhole cover - & remains so to this day, this is the blondie of manhole covers - is the amazingly wonderful double triangular. Beat this for manhole cover & frame porn if you can.

In fact, forced to choose between spending the night with these two, I'd struggle to decide.

I remember I colleague of mine searching for man holes at work a few years ago. He was quite taken aback at the search results and probably set off a whole load of network security alarms.

Really interesting piece in the Telegraph Magazine yesterday about Kenyon International.

Who they? You ask. They are disaster recovery specialists and have a global response team to go to all sorts of sites where there is a human disaster. They picked up the pieces, both physical and mental, after the German plane flew into the Alps amongst so many many more.

Can't link to the article but their own website is interesting too.

It wads also notable for showing how deeply in love Prunella & Timothy still are. They just radiated love, warmth & understanding.

Was really   heart warming to watch
Ditto........love them both to bits but but makes me cringe to think that he is in Eastenders. Gotta pay dem bills somehow though I suppose.

Well there's a thing, I would never have imagined he would do that. I just checked his Wiki, & he wads in Coronation Street, too.

Does anyone know what sort of money someone like Timothy West would get in a top soap? Is it x per episode, or a 6 or 12 month flat fee? I suppose it could be a considerable sum, but it is almost a full time job presumably, so precludes him from earning elsewhere.

Seems like a good option for you to explore when you hang up your skypoker boots given you have already done TV work. I would have thought you would be better suited to Last of the Summer Wine than Eastenders.

Now now Mr Bates. I'm kind of hoping I can survive at least another 3 weeks, which would take me into my 10th year next door. My contract has just been renewed, so I must have a chance, though it's meaningless in a way, as it can be terminated by either party without notice. Still, they renewed it, which is a good sign.

I see you got 3 or 4 nice cashes last night for around £800. That very impressive Sky Poker Sharkscope graph of yours should hit the 6 figure number in the next few weeks - that's quite astounding, well done.

You have won plenty on 'Stars, too, I see. You must be minted. Wink

Your ears should be burning, too, after that Mr Rhino fella revealed how helpful you had been to him.  What a great thing that thread was, where, quite by accident, from a random comment I posted, we learned that so many of the more experienced players like you were quietly helping the newbies under the radar. Seriously, for a guy who is some £150,000 ahead, it's grand to see what you have been doing for the little guys.

Have you considered giving up work & playing full time? Personally, I hope you don't - family business & all that - but it must have crossed your mind?

Congrats on nearly getting to 10 years!

The Rhino PM was interesting when I opened it the message started along the lines of we were playing a sat and you shoved with Q4o and I expected a rant message but got a nice message which I responded to.

The £100k target has been on the radar of myself and Mr D, is some bragging rights there.....speaking of bragging rights....
MattBates 114000 1 £210.90 + £99.83 Head Prizes 5
TommyD 0 2 £125.40 + £46.40 Head Prizes

Quite surprisingly we have only been heads up a handful of times. I think I am ahead on HU so far!

It would be nice to be minted, sadly not the case! Where did it all go....Huh??

I have thought about going full time but with the family business its a hard decision and what may seem like a good choice now may not be in a few years time. Also I can continue working full time and power napping to no. 1 on sky and make decent £!

Thanks Matt.

Tenth year, not 10 years. That's but a speck on the horizon. One step at a time, & all that.

I see you got a little nearer the magic £100,000 yesterday - two more wins, was it?

You are famous, too - I spotted a photo of you on Greeky's Diary.....

That's most interesting.

Have you seen the "What We Do" Tab?

It includes......

Disaster Victim Identification

Search and Recovery of Dead Bodies

Repatriation of Dead Bodies

Memorials

Portable Disaster Morgue and Mortuaries

Mass Fatality Response Equipment

Personal Property Recovery & Return

Mass Burials

Mass Grave Exhumation and Identification

Thankfully, disasters requiring such services are rare, & aeroplanes don't fly into mountains too regularly.

My question would be, given that these are extremely specialist services, & experts are thin on the ground, & the timing & flow of disasters is unpredictable, what do all those specialist staff do when they are not identifying dead bodies, or whatever?

Is it like a sort of Disaster Temp Recruitment Agency?

Do, say, major airlines pay these people a retainer to be on hand for emergencies?

Not to make light of what is a very serious matter, but a black comedy thought entered my mind as to those Disaster & Emergency businesses.

Business is not so good right now, then a 'phone call comes into the Managing Director to say "we need you, full works, a Jumbo Jet has crashed with the loss of all souls on board".

Does he have a little cry, or go high-five the Accountant?

He is running a business that needs to grow profits, so a little bit of him must be pleased.

Much the same, I suppose, as a Funeral Director might, in some small way, not be too upset if a deadly epidemic hits his locality.

If there are retainers, would imagine it would be the insurance companies using them. Interesting point you raised though.

He should definitely get out of the house on his own for a time.  Caring for someone with dementia becomes absolutely overwhelming near the end.  Caring for someone 24/7 breaks some people.

That is so very true.

Hoe are things with you now David, if it's Ok to ask? I know it's been challenging for a few years.

You still working at the school?

Fully recovered from the heart scare affair?

What you gonna do with that motorbike?

Don't really know what to post that doesn't come across as a self pitying whinge, so i'll just say that i feel like the driver of a steam engine on a long incline and i am quickly running out of fuel.

Just tell it as it is David (if it's not too personal).

Or shovel some more coal on the fire.

From the article it seems that the airlines etc pay retainers and the staffing for each emergency comes from a bank of 'freelancers'.
When the call comes into HO they get on the phone and ask "are you available?".
Equipment, including all the PSE stuff is stored and ready to go with varieties to suit all climates and eventualities.
If you can find the article it is truly fascinating.

I've just spoken with Mrs Mohican about Kenyons. My wife is an Embalmer and had all the paperwork filled out and approved by her bosses to go on the call out rosters for Kenyons, then the little princess turned up and delayed that. It seems they have a wide variety of skilled people on their books, not just the Funeral trade. Doctors,Dentists,Fireman,Policeman,Divers, search and rescue teams. I don't know a lot more but I'd be happy to ask beloved any questions you have.

Hold up, hold up.

Your wife is a what? An EMBALMER?

Embalming what, bodies?

How did she get into that? Did it require much training?

Can't say I have ever met anyone who said they want to be an embalmer when they grow up.

Yep, an Embalmer, of bodies. I think she saw a documentary on it and that was that. 3 years later she qualified. Been doing it 20 years now. I even worked with her for a while between jobs as an Undertaker. Driving the limo's and hearses, bearing into Churches and the like, working on the Coroners ambulance. Wasn't for long though,no more than 9 months.
