No idea, John, but yes, I see him in the audience most days.

I expect he will name his offspring Ronnie, or Rooney, or somesuch.

Do you enjoy the snooker?

Just edited the post has a nice life on the face of it.

I hesitate to say I am a fan as I would not watch any other tournament all year unless it was on and very bored.

However I have watched more than ever this year finding the beebs coverage comforting to a certain degree.

I have work to do, but one more thing before I go, just for the snooker buffs this one.

Have you noticed that peculiar thing Alan McManus does when he is on his shot?

Takes a textbook stance, chin on cue, all nicely lined up, does his final "feather", & then, on the backswing, & a nana second before he cues through, he rises 2 or 3 inches, sort of stands up on the shot.

Has he always done that?

Not knocking it, not at all, if it works, good luck to him, in the same way as we have in golf "Wiggle Waggle" Dufner, or dear old helicopter swing Jim Furyk.

Fair play to McManus though, it's been 20 years or more since he was at the top, & he was a Qualifier this year. Good for him, though I fear Ding is going to blow him away.

Quite like Ding, though was surprised to see from his Wiki that he has been a bit of a naughty boy from time to time, & incurred a few fines for naughtiness.

McManus has always raised his head slightly just before the shot.

He's also always had the longest pause before delivering the cue.

I've a feeling that the two are somehow connected.

Ahh, never knew that, it's a most peculiar thing to see.

Tempo is key, I suppose. I always struggled with that momentary pause before delivering the shot. I had a most dreadful "snatch" when under pressure, which was most of the time.  I went & sought advice from a good coach, who got me to introduce that pause.

After that, it was perfect - I got down, did my feathering, paused, & then snatched. Abso hopeless, I was.

So I turned to golf. The less said the better about that, if anyone ever had a worse swing than me, I'd be very surprised indeed. I used to drive poor old Slow Mo nuts.

Incidentally I think I know who the golf pro was who coached you at Kedleston, the one who impressed you by being able to hit the ball one-handed on either side.

Was it DJ Russell?

BOOM, that was him.

Nice bloke, enjoyed his company, got on well, & he's probably a vey good coach. I was a step too far fort him, though.

Whatever made you suddenly think of that, Ralph? Last time we discussed that you were still a youngish man.

He is called Brian Tony, a  really nice fella. For years his dad would come with him and take the seat beside him but he seemed to share that seat with his son's wife last year and don't think I have seen him once this year. Hope he is ok.

Maybe his new wife has put her foot down?

More seriously, yes, of course I hope he is OK.

Wonder what he does for a living, he seems to do a lot of traveling with Football, too, as well as the Snooker?

Not the most popular of pros. Ask Jimi next door.
He was always fine with me but I was a kid at the time. I used to play with his son Chris at Mickleover. He'd only just started and we used to play for the ball each time.
Made sense to me. I was better at the time than him and I used Molitors. He had a bag full of Titleist balatas 😊
