The £200 that NatWest refunded to me in error.

I decided to ring them, to sort it out. I don't expect them to diddle me, & I don't have any wish to diddle them. Also, in these spots, the money is never quite ours - there is always the niggling thought that they may claim it back at some point, & Sod's Law being what it is, it would have been when least expected, or when, perhaps, I could ill-afford it.

A lot of "press this for that" went off when I rung them, but I eventually got through to a warm, friendly advisor at NatWest.

Some surprise was expressed - "this is not really possible" sort of thing. After some toing & froing, they established I had received the £200 from the ATM, because I said so, & they had therefore refunded me in error.

The outcome?

They said I could keep the additional £200. My oh my, that felt rather nice.

They also said that if I felt uncomfy with this, I could.....

Visit a Branch of NatWest

Fill in a complaint form. (?)

Fill in a "Consent" (to remove cash from my account) Form.

Wait 2 weeks.

Decided to pass on all that palaver, obviously, so that was a nice little bit of bunce.

God Bless NatWest Bank.

You really need to watch that Frasier episode. It's a scream.

I will try, though I can't promise.

I watched around 30 seconds of a Frasier episode once. Seem to remember it involved his Dad.

Anyway, it was canned laughter. Nothing on TV, nothing at all, is worse than canned laughter, it drives me nuts. *

* Actually, un-necessary background music may be worse. Quite why TV Producers & Shopping Mall Managers think we need background music for everything is a mystery unlike no other. And have you heard that diddly-widdly soft soap music they play on Aircraft whilst we are awaiting take-off?

And another thing - what about that vomit-inducing string music on a loop that Sky Sports use during Golf Coverage, "behind" the score graphics? It was fine the first 39,314 times, but come on, enough is enough.

Life seems to have reached to the point where silence is an unexpected & wonderful bonus, a sheer luxury.

If I were King For A Day, I think I'd ban all TV background music, & public-space Muzak.

Do all stakers get a %age discount equivalent to what £200 is worth? Spread the wealth Tikay Wink

Agree about canned laughter. There is nothing worse. US shows that ain't funny (I'm looking at you Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls, HIMYM etc) always use it. Maybe our SOH as Bits doesn't translate to their 'comedy' shows, but give me Father Ted over anything from across the Atlantic every day of the week.

Hope all is well your end Smiley

This is quite an interesting post
http://kenlevine.blogspot.co.uk/2006/07/can-canned-laughter.html

I've been in a live audience before - the one problem that he doesn't really mention is that some people get  somewhat overexcited from the whole experience. Very few shows get a benefit from hearing the audience, it's even worse when some individuals stand out far too clearly.

I watch a lot of You-tube instructional videos (Mostly mechanical how-to's and product reviews). Almost invariably, they have an entirely inappropriate rock anthem as an accompaniment and begin with someone, regardless of age or class, leaning in to the camera and saying, "Yo, sup dude".

Morning.

Bank Details have now been sent to all those who expressed an interest, excepting those who have already paid. I've also omitted KarmaDope & scotty77, as we will settle up in Vegas as agreed.

Payment is not due yet, so no rush.

Thanks Rich.

Not exactly pretty, is she? I've seen a few of these monsters at close hand, down at Southampton, & went on one once, on the Ladbrokes cruise, viewed from the side they look like a block of flats.

Impressively large, though, & the logistics of provisioning for 6,000 passengers & crew on a long voyage must be mind-boggling. I wonder how many loo rolls, or eggs, they take with them?

As modern liners go, I thought this was one of the best, with flowing, classical lines, it's QE2, just passing, I think, Needles, I-o-W.

And imagin the chaos it would cause if they got them mixed up.

Did anyone catch the Show on BBC Four last night, "Madness on wheels, Rallying in the 1980's"?

Fabulously evocative, & featured those wonderful Group 4 Rally Cars - the RS1800, Fiat Abarth, Lancia Dellta & Audi Quattro.

These beats were such a sight to watch, & it was immensely popular at the time.

The most astonishing thing is that these 500bhp beasts were travelling at huge speeds along roads lined with spectators, & with no guard rails or spectator safety, it was like driving through an avenue of people at 130 mph. Quite amazing it was ever allowed, really, & mercifully few were killed. Eventually though, after several drivers were killed, the Group 4 things were banned.

Great TV, I thought.
