I bet one thing jumped off the page when you looked at that photograph - yes yes, it's obv -  the carpet.

As I'm sure you all know, it is the only Airport in the world where the carpet (the C-A-R-P-E-T) has it's own Wiki page.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland_International_Airport_carpet

Strange people, them folks up in Oregon.

Here's a close up for you.

Gill was so impressed she purchased a Portland Airport carpet themed coaster & pair of socks.

What WOULD Jeeves make of all this?

Need to jump forward a few hours here before I forget.

On the train from Portland down to San Francisco, there were a group of "Amish" people, 4 females & 1 male.

I never took any photos as, well, you know, it's kinda rude to stare at people we consider to be "odd". They were clean, civil & perfectly normal actually, but in society these days it is normal to snigger a little at those who are different to us. I try to avoid falling into that trap, but I have to confess, they did scare me just a little bit.

The females look remarkably like Hospital Sisters.

These are photos from google.

Why the braces?

Well I'm not 100% sure on this, but one of the Amish "things", which, generally, eschews anything modern, is that they don't allow the use of buttons or zips, so I guess they need something to hold their trousers up.

Amish men grow beards after they marry, but moustaches are strictly forbidden.

Here's an Amish "bundling bed". Both occupants get into a sack which is then tied or "bundled", & they sleep either side of that board in the middle. This presumably avoids the possibility of touchage, cuddleage or humpage.

Do you think Harry Houdini might have been Amish during his formative years?

Ha, as in he enjoyed being tied up? Nah, think that's something else altogether. Probably best to ask someone like Matt Russell about that sort of stuff.

When we arrived in Portland, we needed transport to the City Centre, so we jumped the "MAX", aka "Metropolitan Area Express". It's a light rail system, & a remarkably large & well-developed one. 5 separate lines - with original names such as Red, Blue, Green, Orange & Yellow - & 97 stations. For such a relatively small place, that's some system.

I'll be playing Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday though, starting with a $600 PLO8 @ Venetian on Sunday which starts at the odd time of 5.05pm.

What's that in UK time ?
