I'd never heard much about The Woolworth Building so I found this quite interesting.

Once the world's tallest skyscraper, Manhattan's Woolworth Building has now been reinvented for a new age.

Thanks Shaz. What a gorgeous looking building that is.

Here's it's Wiki. Warning - only suitable for seriously nerdy sorts.

Here it is with the World Trade Centre twin towers in the background. There would have been very big odds available that the Woolworth Building would outlast the WTC.

Horse-racings Royal couple, Hollie Doyle & Tom Marquand, got officially engaged at the weekend.

Hard to find too many detractors, they seem a lovely couple.

If they can keep away from the cocaine, unlike so many jockeys, they will both be seriously wealthy very soon. Good luck to them, they both work & train hard.

No idea where the photo was taken. Scilly Isles maybe? Probably not Skeggy.

I love watching this girl strut her stuff. I know she’s said to be biased, but I don’t think she is. She’s abso the best at her job. I’m fixated watching her, and that slightly crooked way her lips form.

After her tweet about how "looks like some scuffles in the Capitol Hill building", there's a Twitter devoted to how she'd report some major historical incidents. Some belters here...

Band get soaked in mid Atlantic after iceberg mishap.
Fight breaks out near Hastings between British squaddies and French tourists: King’s ophthalmologist called.
Architects brought in following a health and safety incident in Pudding Lane.
Pop-up regatta in the Channel near Dunkirk.
Citizens of Kiev may struggle to boil their kettles due to reduction in output at nearby power station.

Have you been following the attempts to become the first winter ascent of K2 ?
By numerous expeditions
It will end in a tragedy
The only question is how many ?

Season Greeting to you all,

It's been great reading the latest raft of posts from the "old fella", and I don't know why, but I looked at his Wiki page, and I have to say what great read of fiction it is; so do
we know who's responsible for this?:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Kendall_(poker_player)

If you haven't seen it then enjoy.

Dave & Sue

Great work whoever is responsible, I assume it was just copied from his linkedin bio.....

Blimey - good to see you here James. Life OK? Hear anything from Mole?

Hi Tony, still pop in now and again to keep up but as you know was never a big poster.

Life is going good, had a crappy few weeks when my daughter had the virus which wasn't much of an issue for her health but Debbie is highly vulnerable due to a lack of immune system so it was a worrying few weeks. Luckily, we have plenty room for us all to isolate and keep safe so we got through it ok I just cooked for a fortnight and left plates outside doors  Smiley

Mole is back in Scotland staying with his folks. Unfortunately his sight had deteriorated and he was pretty much blind for quite a while. He came back and they have operated a couple of times with not a lot of success but he has got more ops planned and has regained a little bit of vision. They are working on the eye that previously had no vision and he is going to need a cornea transplant but as he has no iris or lens to hold it in place so they need to make a fake plate for that and they also will hopefully try to put a lens I the other eye too.

Caught up with him a bit over the holidays as he can see enough to reply to messages and he is hopeful that if the ops go ok he can get himself back home to Thailand.

Hope everyone is keeping well.

Hollie is one of the best I've ever seen. Keeps everything simple, makes hardly any mistakes and is good as there's been on hard pullers.

The outright markets massively underrated the golden couple last year and are again I think. Marquand is a great bet at 8-1 for the jockeys' championship.

Ha, very good Rod.

The more I see her the more I admire her.

Serious question for you. I watched scores - hundreds maybe - of documentaries in 2020. The best two by far were the three parter on Rubert Murdoch & the 5 parter on Margaret Thatcher. Both - of course - were on the dear old BBC.

The Murdoch one just about got my vote, but the Thatcher one was also tip top. Wonderful, wonderful, viewing.

Did you watch either? I know you are not a huge Thatcher fan (lol....) but they seemed reasonably balanced to me.

How are you & yours - all safe & healthy I hope?

PS - Do you remember when Celtic were kings of the Scottish castle?

Not being morbid or mopey, but I just can't see the WSOP happening this summer, probably not at all.

I'm coming to the view that I may have paid my last visit to Vegas. All things considered, not a disaster I suppose, but fairly sad all the same.

Usually at this time of year we are all F=5ing "WSOP Dates announced" but I don't think we need to bother yet awhile this year.

Hope you are keeping safe mate.

Hi Tony,

Not really. When I first began to read, I devoured every book I could on mountaineering, solo sailing trips round the world & so on, but I've sort of lost touch with the scene these days.

No Vegas trip booked this year presumably?

So sad. When you next speak to him, give him my best regards please. I was working for Sporting Bet in around 2005 & we did a trip to Austria & they gave him a freebie. When we started playing, the poor Austrians had never seen anything like him, turning up with all sorts.

Can't begin to tell you how much fun he has given me in different places down the years.

And now it's all behind us. Meh.

I can think of any number of brothers who were top jockeys, & plenty of father/sons, but I'm struggling to think of any married/engaged couples who were both so near the top of the jockey profession.

Bet you can name a few though?
