I'm very relieved it will be overhead.

Another fabulous photo from Twitter.
In North Africa, men of the SAS "L Detachment" return from a heavily armed long-range patrol in the desert:

Are those jerry cans water or petrol?
Why are the gun barrels that odd shape at the pointy end?

Vickers K, the end is a flash suppressor. It doesn't look like it would be too effective but the Vickers was a repurposed aircraft machine gun, so the flash suppression stopping anything burning the plane it was designed to be shot out of could explain it.
The far away gun is a Browning .50 Aircraft Pattern - another aircraft gun repurposed for the LRDG/SAS - one of those on a jeep was considered capable of taking on a light tank due to the half inch wide bullets and the manoeuvrability of the jeep.
I would be wanting the jerry cans in front to be water at least - bugger driving into battle with fuel cans on the bonnet and no windscreen.....

This is ingenious. Stick your postcode in & see the area from now to back in the day via the slider.

3 years with 2 years suspended and he can serve it at home?
I'm surprised the Judge didn't give him a BJ as a parting gift.

Teeks, I assume you're already all over this, but this year's newsletter from Warren Buffet is out.

I received my 2021 Census Reminder today.
I wonder what % of those required to answer it will actually do so. More or less than 50%?

If people don't fill it in online they'll get paper copies followed by census takers at their door.
I had a look - there was a shortfall in 2011 of about a million censuses, but most of them were accounted for by properties being unexpectedly unoccupied.
There were less than 200 actual prosecutions for not filling a census in - so the people who didn't fill it in seems to be somewhere between a 100 and a million.

Thanks Jon.
The world has changed beyond recognition since 2011, and I'm pretty sure a whole lot more will dodge it this time.

Not that he ever would, mind.

Hi Simon, great to hear from you. Hope work, family etc are all good & well. Did you have a successful NFL season? All revved up for Chelters?
Enjoyed those links immensely, thank you. Ended up spending way too much time on googling doing a deep dive.
What a story. As underboss of the Colombo crime family, one of the 5 New York Mafia families, he was grassed up by his son, & at the age of 93 sentenced to 8 years in prison - & actually survived it. Not many 93 year olds with an 8 year stretch ever see daylight again.
How did you happen across those stories? Never knew you was into the gangster & mobster scene. I still love all the gangster books, can't get enough of them.
Take care Simon, & do stay in touch please.
