Tikay finished 5th, well deserved. When there was 9 left he made a remarkably brave call witk KK and it some how outdrew JJ. I finished 6th, 4 way chop before tikay had even got to the cash desk, dan sampson was involved with max and pep fontana.

Once life settles down a bit for me and the mother in law moves out and my sister leaves after her visit from Chicago I might try pop down one Wednesday.... I discovered that Saturdays didn't seem to be for me. The rebuys in the £20 on Tightys table seemed to encourage people with ESP to enter coin flips with me to often. Was fun though! Cheesy

Understudy post.

Played a tournament at someplace last night, outdrew several people and eventually chopped it 3 ways at 530 am. Drove home in my Beemer, rescued a mouse from the cat, answered 600 PM's, had 11 minutes sleep, caught the train to London St Pancras. saw a mobile crane, got a stiffy, made my way to Feltham and nodded off at my desk.

Ah well, another 24 hours closer to death, I really am blessed.

Happy days.

lmao...that's the funniest thing I've read in ages.

That Red-Dog  Post is uncannily accurate........

I've been a bit waylaid since the weekend, I was dead on my feet after APAT, & I've been running hither & thither ever since. But I'll be boring you all to tears later tonight when I do the Diary "catch-up" stuff. I hope to include lots of trains & things.

OK, catch-up time, step aside.

Let's start with a really weird poker story. Don't worry, no bad-beats moans here, (I won the hand) but this was a very odd play in the Luton £50 + £50 last night.

We are still 8 or 9 handed in the Final. Jack the Lad has run over the table all night with some spectacularly creative calls & speculative continuation bets, & is hugey-wugey Chip Daddy.

He's riled everyone with some startling antics, & we all have his number, but he's bloody hard to trap. But that's not relevant really.

So, the Poker Gods cry "enough", & he donks off all his chips rapido. In what we all think is his exit hand, there is a "count" of the Pot, & it turns out he has 1 x 500 chip left. And the Blinds are 2,000-4,000........

A few hands later, there is a 4 way limpathon (at 2k-4k!) & Jack The Lad chucks in his 500 chip too. So, 2,500 in the Main Pot, & about 14k in the side pot.

For some reason, everyone plays it in the "let's check it down & bust Shortie" style, (it somehow got missed that Shortie was actually infitessimally insignificantly small) & we see this Board, checked until the end.

Scary board, eh?

Anyway, I'm in the SB, first to act, & decide to bet 10k on the River. I'm holding the nuts - well, strictly speaking,  , but I played it like the nuts.

There follows a chorus of sighs & tuts & agitated card-mucking, as if to say, "WTF did you bet for?". Fair enough, usually. So they all Pass like good little soldiers, & I take the 14k Side Pot, & Jack The Lad (who went Busto the next hand) took the 2.5k Main Pot. I had to endure some serious grief & comments when I flipped over "no hand" & took the Main Pot, allowing Shortie-Man to get the 2.5k Main Pot. (In fact, he held the winning hand against all of us!).

It was only afterwards that it was realised by all of us - because it certainly never entered my mind, I was just doing a misread jobbie - that the 4 of us with Chips should really have been fighting over this Side Pot, as Shortie Man was irrelevant, as was the Main Pot. We just lost concentration, all of us, & missed the startlingly obvious facts which were there for us all to see.

Never did I win an easier 14k Pot! But it goes to show, sometimes we miss the bloody obvious when it is staring us in the face.

Luck in Poker - Part 97.

Another bizarre one from last night, how do you think my oppo felt after this stonker?

I'm on the Button, & became confused, & Raised it up with  . Skrikera was sat to my immediate right, & had Passed, & I think I was showing off, "look at me, I can Raise with spanners" sorta thing. Gotta try & impress the girlies, eh? And she has exactly the right sort of hips.

But it goes a bit wrong, & Mr BB gives me the stare-down, before theatrically saying "CALL". Shit. Never mind, we can abandon ship if it gets nasty.

So we take a flop, & as the first 2 cards fall, I see my escape route. The , then the . I'm already thinking, "up & down, I can get out of this". The third flop card arrives, & it's the Bingo Bango Bongo .

Happy Days, I've flopped the nuts!

Check check, hehe, I gotcha baby.

Now, we see the dream card for me -

Followed by the orgasmic River -

Now the Chips are flying all over the place.

So what was BB holding? Yup,

How ugly is that, & just how lucky can I get?

Mr BB was as good as gold, mind, he smiled, did a double take at my holding, & we all had a laugh. That's how to take a beat, but jeez, how much luck is there in poker?

And that coup alone probably set me up for another Luton Final.

OK, just one more dreaded flop story, but this is a bit of a teaser - did I play it right or wrong?

The Western, £100 Freeze,Tuesday night, don't ask how I ended up there after the weekend I had, but I did, so there it is. 79 runners, so a nice prize pool, with, oddly, a 10 man Final but only 9 paid.

11 are left, & I'm cruising to the money, average is 42k, I have 35k, but the Blinds are only 800-1,600 at this stage, as the players had played way too fast & mostly gone Busto in the first 4 Levels.

I'm sat next to Snatimaras, & we are having a ball. On our Table is the weirdest player you ever saw, in every single Pot, Limp pre-, Bet the flop. He is probably a newbie, but he's hitting everything. He has 100k with 15 lft, drops to 10k, & is back to 100k five minutes later, after busting snat spectacularly. Snat Raised with A-Q, & the Villain caled all the way for a gutshot with K-T & rivered it to bust a bemused Snat.

So, we all fancy his chips, he cannot Pass ANYTHING.

The weirdest thing of all is that he has an i-pod on, & can't hear the action. Countless times it gets to him & he sticks in a Blind, & is told "there's been a Raise", & he says, instantly each time - "I call - how much is it?". I mean, really, "call" without knowing what the bet is is a tad dangerous, you'll agree, yes?

I'm looking on in amusement, he'll wait, I'm thinking, as he busts player after player.

And suddenly, I get my chance. I'm dealt  & Villain, as expected, Limps. Blinds are 800-1,600, & I have 35k. Well Mr Villain ain't gonna outplay me, Bubble Time or not I think to myself, & I make a bizarre overbet - 35k, All-in, with about 4k in the Pot!

And it gets to him, "eh?" he says as the Dealer looks at him.

"There has been a bet" says the Dealer again.

"Call" he says, "how much is it?"

"35k" says the Dealer, straight-faced.

And without batting an eyelid, he counts out 35k & tosses it in the middle!

His holding was  , he flopped the Q, & it was a very long drive back up the M1, ruing my exit, & I've done £100 when a decent Cash was there for the taking if I play it sensibly.

I'm actually pretty pissed off with myself for the play, because, as I keep banging on, bankroll Preservation is all, & there was good money there to be had if I did not have a brain fart.

But what would YOU do in that spot? I do actually think the play was right - my play, that is - but then again, I went home without any pay. And that's a bad thing, generally.

On the road, there's a technique called "defensive driving", where you try to anticipate bad driving by others. Should we do the same in poker, & shy away from the daft plays, or should we say "sod it, I'm up for it, let's dance"?

My K-9 against your attempted steal on the K high Board was better. Wink
