Hat? You wore a hat? I never noticed. Must have been distracted.

I walked along the Thames Path, & I must say, it's changed since I was last in that part of the world. One of my first ever construction jobs was at Bankside Power Station, which I believe used to supply the power to London Underground. Now it's all posh pubs & swanky office blocks, but it's wonderful that they've created the riverside path, "Thames Walk".
To my astonishment, as I walked the Path, Tower Bridge rose, & what should quietly slip into the Port of London, & moor right next to HMS Belfast, but a huge Cruise Liner. She was the "Silver Wind", operated by Silversea Cruises. She was
en route
from Stockholm to Lisbon, as I've discovered by some detective work - you can google ship movements in the Port of London.
I never even knew Cruise Liners visited the Port of London - how long has this been the case?
What a stunning sight she was, & that trip up the Thames Estuary & through East London & Docklands must be magnificent.
London Bridge was bathed in soft, pink light on one side, & white light the other side. It's truly awesome that London takes such good care of it's wonderful Thames Bridges.
I read somewhere that every Capital City on Earth sits on a big river, & all major Cities do, too. Which explains why Birmingham is pants.

..but when did you eve see a Dealer, or Cardroom Manager (we don't really have TD's) intervene in such a case? Never, because that's not included in the Dealer's training.
I know this is from last week. Wanted to tell you about something that happened while I was playing at Grosvenor Salford..!!
Very drunk man, loads of chips in a silly £3.00 rebuy, got to final table... He was getting over-agressive with his language and swearing... Big stocky guy with a neck like Mike Tyson, so nobody is gonna start arguing with him... One guy on the table put his hand up to get the attention of the cardroom manager, he came over, the other player whispered to him, obviously that he was not happy with this drunks behaviour... The manager went over to him and told him in front of all players, "Sir, if you carry on with that language I will have to remove you from the game.."... 5 mins later he started again, so he got a 2nd warning... He stopped... But then, his daft drunken calls eventually saw him go out, and he left without a murmer to the Cardroom Manager...
Well done to the card room manager I say for having the balls to tell him to stop..!!

Full marks to Grosvenor Salford, then. The Cardroom Manager there must be a rare bird indeed.

With all the canals in and around Birmingham it can be very nice, try having a walk around Brindley Place at the back of Broad Street, tons of development around that area, bars, cafe's etc.

No work yesterday, so I went down to Luton for their Friday night £75 Freezeout. I had a meeting before the Comp with Mick Davis, then we got started, bang on time, well done Luton. 80 runners or thereabouts, & almost £2k to the winner. (A chop is 95% certain, too, so tidy money - by my standards - for a top 5 placing).
This comp is as good 1 day structure as you will find anywhere, & plays very "soft" in the main, there being maybe a dozen or more "real" players there, but those dozen are tough - folks like Jim McShane, Tighty,
Tracey
Dell
, Jim McBride, Celtic, Paul M3Boy Garnham & a few others. Jim McShane, by the way, Finalled yet again, he's well nigh unplayable in Luton.
To be honest, I expect to go deep or Final every time I play this, & I almost always do. So I got a slap round the chops last night, busting after about half an hour, oops.
I'd dribbled down from 5k to 3k, trying to "play" & missing every flop, and all my misreads were getting called. It really was a fun table, I must say. But they have my number down there now, I suspect.
Anyway, down to 3k, Blinds 50-100, when a fine young man makes it 600, first hand he's played I think. He must have a biggie. I have
, & decide to take a look, so I've got 2,400 behind now, & I might have to push on any flop - I have Position. It's an ideal stop & go situation I'm thinking.
It's a decent flop for me, in fact, so good I decided instead to check-raise, when I saw this....
I check, Nice Man then scuppers my cunning plan by moving all-in!
Well, I've got a nice bunch of outs, I'm about even money here, and the clincher is my stack - I need to make something happen, & I'm even money to 2xup here. It plays very different if I have a bigger stack. So I call, & miss, & that was that.
And I leave the table to mutterings of "don't give up your day job mate", "how could he think he was winning with 5-4?" (!) da de da de da.
No regrets here. Well, just a few.
Well I'm not driving 90 miles back homr after half an hour, so I decide to play the cash game.......

With 1,350 in the pot already, I doubt he can fold to a check-raise, so you're probably best off pushing as was your original plan.

The Cash-Game was £200 sit-down, Dealers Choice.
Almost my first hand was
, I was up against
, & the flop & turn were
........Bingo!
Then, at 6 card Omaha, I have J-J-x-x-x-x, & we see a board of J-J-4-9-Q. My oppo was holding Q-Q-9-9-x-x........How unlucky was he?
Then, at Super-Stud, I am dealt trips, but with one card to come, in a 6 way affair, all my out cards for the house are on the table. (What is the last card called in Super-Stud, the "down card"?). But 2 guys Pass to some lively action, there are not enough cards for the final round, so several of my "outs" get shuffled back into the deck, & I hit on the end. Amazingly, ALL 3 of my opponents either miss their low draw, or are on a high only, so instead of the expectd split pot, I scoop.
So after 30 minutes my £200 is £1,200, after an hour I'm up to £2,600, & I just pretty much shut up shop thereafter, eventually cashing in £2,315, for a £2,115 profit. This is HUGE money to me, & I'm just made up. Luckbox, or what?
Jim McShane was casting envious eyes at the table, too - he was looking at £1,400 at best for the Comp, as the last 5, including him, chooped, & took £1k each, with £400 extra to the winner. He'd have paid £500 for my seat I think, as there were one or two on the table that had no idea, to be honest. But you can't beat luck, whoever you are, so without really "playing" I had a wicked night.
I only lost 2 big pots all night really, on both occasions trying the Omaha "bare Ace" coup, & it failed both times. This trick used to work a few years back, & it's amazing that in 6 Card Omaha folks call with sub-nuts, but they do, & it just don't get the job done any more. Which, in a way, is a good thing I suppose, these are the oppos we dream of having on our table - so long as we don't out-think ourselves by getting too cute.
So I eventually called time - the Table was too good for me by now, it had filled with good players with one eye on my juicy stack, so I poodled home with a nice few bob in my pocket. If I decide to go to Paris, uising the rather illogical logic I do, I see myself as sort of freerolling now. Then again, I don't really wanna waste £2k......

I guess so, yes. With my stack, the hand really plays itself I suppose, & plays the same either way. But yes, I'd have looked daft (more daft) if he checked behind me!

calling preflop is a bit loose I think, you only getting like 5/1 implied odds, and if he has a biggie, you dont hit a hand/draw often enough to justify the preflop call. IMO of course.. I also agree with snoops that you might as well ship it in first on the flop incase he gets potstuck with a hand like 1010 or 99.
Enjoying the diary immensely, good work captain!
