Just a quick aside. I've been reminded several times, on the 'phone by Flushy, & by others via PM, that I've yet to reply to the response by Brighton Rendezvous to my comments about the bad night they had down there at the last Fessie.
I will do do asap, maybe tonight if I get up to date. But I'm not sure we are ever going to see eye-to-eye on the problems that night, so I'm whistling in the dark really, & as such, wasting my time. But I'm quite sad that Guya was not happy with my comments, if my ability to read between the lines is accurate.

Thanks Laxie. Don't worry, I live the life of Riley, & I know it, & I'm as happy as happy can be. Just wish I was a bit bloody younger, I'm badly in need of a MOT & a good service!

So, it was 6am when I crawled into bed at the Luton Days Inn, & I was up at midday to poodle across to Sky at Feltham to record a Christmas Promo. Fancy being paid to do nice little jobs like that!
We are finished by 6pm, & as I'm due in Feltham on Wednesday night to do the Show "proper", so I have a room booked in Feltham overnight Tuesday.
I decide to play the £100 Freeze at The Western, but bust out early, so I tried a little £1 £2 Hold 'Em Cash in what was a £100 Sit-Down affair. Played quite well by my standards, & my draws were mostly hitting, & I cleared £700 profit, very nice.
I called one R in a family affair - I know the Raiser is on a big pair - with
. We see this beauty......
It's Pot Limit, but the lot is soon in the middle, & I turn the flush, & Big Pair man - he held QQ - was not happy.
Later, I repeat the trick with a similar hand, & the same poor guy was holding QQ again!
An odd thing happened later. It's a fun, "craic" table, & we sre just chatting & chilling, with plenty of amusing speech-play.
I call a R with
on the Button, but the BB re-pops it, & the original Raiser calls, as does one other.
"Jeez", I say", how do I get myself in these spots - I've called a R with a bag of spanners, & now I'm stuck for another £35 with this junk". To which 2 guys say "well you should be used to it by now, with the crap you play with". Fair enough.
But then the Dealer said my hand is dead, "speech play does not go, you've revealed your hand". What?!
I can't be arsed to argue, I play for the fun more than anything else, but when I ask why, & he says I've been making similar comments all evening (true) & it's out of order. There you go.
I eventually up sticks at 3am, cash-in my tidy profit, & drive back to my Feltham Hotel, book a late check-out (I'm not needed until 4pm) & settle down for a good sleep.
Until the 'phone rang at 0730........
I thought "speech play" was part and parcel of the game, i.e trying to get info/tells ? and you didnt reveal your hand. so I cant see what the problem was. Is "speech play doesnt go" written in the house rules?

It was an Unlicensed venue, (The Western) so I've no idea what the House Rules are. I'll be writing further about that Club shortly though. A very nice venue, as it happens. The Ruling amused me more than annoyed me, the sheer so wrong-ness of it! But I was having a lovely night, & had no intention of getting into a barney in a Club at which I'm hardly a regular. I've already got to mend fences with Brighton Rendezvous, so I don't really want to take on more aggro right now.

My advice is if you go to bed at 3am that you turn your phone off. Hope this helps.
I usually don't even hear the 'phone when I'm asleep, so it makes no odds, but I got lucky this time, & answered it - & was handsomely rewarded for doing so!

Until the 'phone rang at 0730........
"Hello"
"Hi tikay, it's xxxx from Sky here. I know you are doing tonight's Show, but can you come in earlier & record three Editions of "The Club" as Guest Waffler?" (£££ signs are flashing through my head, that'll be FIVE jobs in 24 hours for Sky).
"Err, yes, I'd love to".
"OK, can you be here for 8.15 please?"
"Pardon?"
"8.15"
"Yes, I heard you. Gulp. Is that 8.15 in the
morning?"
"Yup, thank you".
Jeez. A hasty shower, & luckily, my Hotel is in Feltham, so I dash out & am there by 8.20am.
And so I got three nice plum jobs "gifted" to me, & thoroughly enjoyed the day, though it took all day. The usual "Anchor", Dan Lobb (who, would you believe with a name like "Lobb" is an ex-Tennis Pro?!) was unwell, so everyone shuffled up a spot. Matt Broughton took over as "Anchor", Nick Wealthall got the other "Anchor" Spot, & I got the three Guest Slots. Needed three changes of wardrobe, & spent a lot of time in Make-Up, mind......
We had some interesting Guests, more of whom later.
We got finished at about 5pm, & I was wrecked, & fell asleep in the Green Room, until the lovely Anneka woke me at 7pm with a cup of tea (God bless TV "runners"), & suggested it was time I got showered & "dressed" for The Open. Richard Orford was already there - what a Pro he is, meticulous with his research - but by the time I'd stirred myself & got showered, I was too late to do my own research. Luckily, Rich can carry any Show unaided, & we got the Show out, & it went OK I think.
And so, at half-past midnight, it was time to head back to Derbyshire, for a long-overdue proper nights sleep.
But the Tom-Tom malfunctioned as I drove up the M1, & it directed me to G-Casino Luton, & by the time I'd extracted myself from the Cash-Game, it was 5am, & so it was 7am by the time I arrived home. Tired, but happy, having earned a nice few bob over the trip, & nicely wedged up from a good run in the cash-games. Straight to bed, & got up at 4pm! Grumpy.

Nice one.
I did get a call from Sky to help with some filming, but had to say no (now there's a first). Had a meeting in Milton Keynes instead, but the day job pays the bills. Shame would normally jump at the chance.

Yes, we've been asking a lot of folks to do Interviews for an "A-Z of Poker" we are making. A location in London has been hired one day every week for the last three weeks, & hundreds of Interviews have been done. Jen has done some, Andy Pyrah, Michelle Orpe, Dana, Roy Houghton, & the project will be on Air, on Channel 846, quite soon.
They have oodles of new Shows & "Themes" lined up, the whole Channel is finding it's feet now. It's been huge fun, for me, I can tell you. And knowing I don't "do" Christmas, they have found me a couple of Shows to do over the Holiday, so that'll keep me from being too depressed by the dreaded festivities, non-stop Chrismas jingles & such-like. The Sky Live days are scheduled to continue in 2008, too, so plenty to keep me occupied, as long as I don't get the tin-tack. One never knows, eh?
