The Nation owes a debt of gratitude to "The Sun" newspaper. Today's shock-horror headline was....

"Amy Whitehouse takes crack".

Who'd have thought that?

Still, it makes a change from "Maddie  - witness comes forward to say she saw suspicious looking man near room" Which, we are led to believe, she's just remembered. 8 months after the event.

Do the papers just think we are stupid? Or are we stupid?

Alas, we are mostly stupid.

With above average chips when you fold, and your ability relative to the average satellite field there (many of whom will spew chips rather than lock up to a seat) its a pass. I don't even think its close.

Sadly, I think you are right. Tom, of course, is wrong.

The other factor I failed to take into account, was that Mr Stranger was the ONLY player on the table with more than Average, i.e., enough to damage me mortally.

Outcome. Busted.

Cause. Loss of concentration.

Next case.

Only reason for you to pas KK at this stage of the comp is on read.  You had a read so then its fine to pass.

You shouldnt however pass cos you have 25k in a sat. You dont have enough chips at this stage to do so. You only have 1/8 of the chips in play with 6 seats plus £100 being paid out. So for me you need to have 50k + to be passing this hand at this stage.

Ahh, the voice of Luton speaks!

Thanks Jim.  I'm betwixt & between, I think it's marginal in truth, but it goes down as unforced error. I mean, he may have had jack-shit. But I did suspect Aces. But then, I always do. But I'm usually wrong.

But I'm dithering. Still, it stopped those bloody tree puns.

OK, here's another conundrumn for you.

Here are the facts, work it out.

I really wanted to play the Luton Main Event this weekend, Saturday & Sunday.

I can't, as I'm working in Feltham Saturday night, & my earliest arrival time in Luton is about 1.15am.

I don't think the Comp will make many runners.

It starts at 8pm.

It's 7,500 + 7,500, ALL Levels, 1 hour clock.

How many chips would I have left by the time 1.15am arrives, & is it really totally stupid to try & play it on that basis? I think I'd have some 10,000 to 12,000 by that time. A lot more, in fact, than if I sat down at the start......

I know it's daft, but I am tempted. Talk me out of it, please.

I wont be playing any of the comps during this festival

as a. im too busy to play any 2 day events this week and

b.  i dont think the fields will be large enough to make these comps value to play ( i wish id listen to Tom before the last Luton main event)

I will however be turning up late most nights for the added value in the cash games during festivals. So just come up for the dealers game and you can get the atmosphere from the main event while getting all the action you will need.

When I play Brighton, I stay in Hickstead, because they have a nice, quiet, hotel there, right out in the country, & the Staff are very friendly. Extravangantly so, they even ay "hi, how are you?" as if they mean it.

It's where, if you read Red's Diary, he & I had the debate about the unidentified bird, was it a cormorant or a heron? And just yards from that Roma Caravan Red discovered.

So, Monday morning, post a heavy weekend in London & Brighton, & thoroughly wrecked, I decided to spend some time with nature. The Hotel has a large pond/small lake, about half the size of a footie pitch. It's a mini-wildfowl reserve, with hides, marshy bits, reeds, the lot. So I thought I'd spend an hour or two there, & unwind. I just adore ducks & birds.

There were three fisherman around the lake, & it was totally silent, 100% tranquility, save for birdsong. Beautiful.

There was a little wooden bench by the lake, & I decided to plonk myself there & let the world go by. Nice & quiet, like, so as not to disturb the fishermen/fish. Fishermen get very feisty about human noise, you know.

Nearby the bench were a bunch of mallards, 1 cormorant, some unidentified birds, wood pigeon, 3 gulls, and about a dozen white geese.

Silence? Geese? Mistake. Geese are like guard dogs (they are used extensively as guard "dogs" in Africa, because they make serious noise when strangers approach).

So, as I approached, stealthily, & in total silence, the bench, the geese spotted me, & it all went off. The mallards all jumped into the pond, the rest took off with much flapping of wings - wood pigeon fly very noisily, their wings "clap" - the cormorant took off silently, God bless Cormorants, but the geese went apeshit, honking & hooting big time. And they sort of arch their back, open their wings, & waggle that funny tail thing ducks & geese have, sort of agitated style.

And the three fisherman looked at me daggers.....

Ah well, I thought it best to get back on the road, & within minutes, I was cruising up the M23.

So much for my nature day.

Anyway, here's some pics of the Hickstead Hotel Duck & Bird Department.

Hush you, this is complicated.

OK, here's a wood pigeon. They can get very plump. Like Red almost.

Mallards. The man mallard (drake) is irradescent & has beautiful, coloured, shiny plumage, & the lady mallard (hen) is just speckly brown. They have to work hard to fly, the wing-motion is very rapid, & they often fly just above the water. Landing is a sort of controlled, they use their webbed feet as sort of skis, & wheeeeeeeee, they are down.

This is a cormorant, or as Red thinks, a Heron. There are lots of them in the Serpentine, in London, where I first saw them on a Poker Week gig one Sunday. I don't know, but I think they are designed for diving, for fish.

White goose. Noisy buggers, but got great character. Golf Course greens get invaded by Canada Geese, who emit copious amounts of poo during bowel evacuation.

Or that nobody in the press seems to have commented on how ridiculous it is for the 2 main suspects to have released a photo fit of a man that they claim might be guilty and it be taken without question?
