All that rowan at the table could put people off this poplar game of ours
LOL
You "Wood" have to make a pun like that, all these Tree related jokes are getting a real "Pine" in the rear....
Tikay hates puns so I'm probably for the chop now for not respecting my elders.

Yep, even though Tikay tried to palm us off onto Red's thread it's plane to see we're staying.

I had no cards to speak of, not one Premium, but I had a ball. I maintained an average stack throghout, not difficult, because we had plenty of "play", & on a table of good players, it's not hard to make a move or two. I bluffed Woodley twice with air, & showed him, & the banter was just terrific.
Denis O'Mahoney arrived, taking Danny Sansom's seat to my right, & we got to tangle several times, ending up all square. Denis eventually succumbed with AK suited, to Albert, the one time Albert had a real hand.
Red arrived at my table, & as is traditional, I targeted him. And he got all awkward & re-popped me every time. And I KNEW he had nothing. And I knew that HE KNEW I had no hand. 6 high would have been plenty, I'm sure. I think I'll have to ease off him, I just end up feeding him chips.
My seat was so difficult, & for that reason, it was huge fun finding a spot. Rob Garfield defended his BB with his life, & I never got a thing past him. I'd lose 2k, win them back, lose them again, & so it went on, all night, "proper poker", playing with jack-shit. I can't recall a more enjoyable evening, & with Red & Compo there too, I was as happy as Larry.
But when Albert arrived at the table, he cut off my supply completely. He's such an awkward player to play, he just won't let go of anything, & bluffing him is not an option. So I needed proper hands, & I never got any, & Albert ground me down, calling my speculative action time after time. I lost a chunk Raising with A-Q, & Albert did me, & now I'm in danger territory suddenly.
And suddenly, from being full of confidence in my game, ducking & diving & dancing, I got stymied by Albert, & I froze, & could not pull the trigger for fear of Albert calling me. He limped on my BB, I had Q-6, it came 4-5-6 two Diamonds, I put a bet in, Albert called. I checked the turn, because my head was all messed up by him now, & naturally, he saw that as the green light to bluff me off it, which he did, with QJ. (Q high). And he showed, gleefully. And I KNOW I've just made a horrific play, but it's this psychology thing again, I'm all of a tizz, & my confidence has gone south.
So, down to 6k (blinds are only 400-800, but it's getting dodgy now) I am in the SB with the chipped up Rob Garfield BB, who's also tormented me all night, he just calls me every time, or re-pops it. So, Passed round to us, I try a little speech play. "I may have to move in here Rob, if I have half a hand."
"OK, move in Blind, & I'll call you blind" says he, once again outwitting me. I'm just shit at this speech-play lark. I look, I have 9-7 suited, & just "make up", Rob says, "I check Blind". Jeez, now I don't know where I am. It comes 7 high, I move all-in quickly. Rob says, "OK, I'll look now". He looks, then says "I may have to call, I'm ahead".
"I don't think so sunshine" I say, hopefully.
"CALL" says he.
And flips over 7-T, a spot ahead of me, & that was that.
And I was SO upset - with myself - because I just wanted to stay there all night. Good poker, with good players & special friends, you just can't beat it. And I slinked out of the room, tail between legs, not sulking, but just very sad. I was having so much fun, & it's all over.
Tonight's recovery mission - I usually play & do well after a setback - is cancelled, as I am now going to work. Probably just as well.
OK, I'm at the bottom of the M1, at Scratchwood services Days Inn Hotel, so I'd better set off for Feltham, the pleasures of Friday afternoon, the M1 Roadworks, & the M25 await.
Next poker, Sunday night at DTD.

Talking of tonight's Open - yes, more (un)covert spam... - I've arrived at the Studio to be told that tonight is Burns Night, & the Show needs to reflect that. "Do you know much about Burns?" they asked. "Oh yes" I promptly replied, "I'm big into Burns, leave it with me". And so they did.
So....errr....well, can anyone assist me here? I know sfa about Burns, though I seem to recall he was a poet or a painter. And a Scot, maybe?
Anyway, with or without your help, I'll be spouting on about Burns tonight like an old soldier. "Burns, ah yes, love his stuff".
And I bet I can get it through. I'll start with this gem, one of my favourite Burns odes.
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
PS - I've just boobed, big time. They had decided to do a "pre-record" at the top of the Show, me cavorting with our two Guests, who are both sort of Page 3 Models, Peta Todd & someone else. "Oh no, I was hoping to recite some Burns for Burns night" I say, ready & hoping to be persuaded otherwise. "OK" they said, "we'll go with your idea". Remind me never to run my hopeless bluffs ever again.
