Excellent news today, that Jodrell Bank is to be considered for World Heritage Site status.

As youngsters, we were in awe of Jodrell Bank, it was the world leader in what we called space telescopes, now known, I think, as Astro Physics.

It was set up just after WW11 by Bernard Lovell (later Sir), but was renamed the Nuffield something or other in the Sixties, only to revert to Jodrell Bank subsequently. It remains a leader in the field of Radio Astronomy, & has one of the World's largest Radio Telecopes. Bernard Lovell was a WW11 Radar boffin.

It has a Visitor Centre, & is well worth a visit. It's part of the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST), & is just off the M6, J18, near Holmes Chapel. If you look to your right as you head North on the M6 near J18, you can just about see the facility. (Just before you hit the car in front).

The Times, Saturday January 26th, 2008.

"A hoard of more than a hundred false legs found in the cellar of a retired taxi driver in Dorset last August has been donated to victims of the earthquake that hit Pakistan in 2005......"

Donated to the Kneedy.

You haven't got a leg to stand on with jokes like that.

It wasn't their main present, just a stocking filler.
