I feel sickend for him  at the decision he had to make there. One can only imagine his thoughts as he let go.

It's just beyond comprehension, the decision he had to make. And how brave was the Dad to actually let go of his child? There is no word as to whether the Father survived. Most on the toip floor did not.

According to the CNN news I watched here both the mother and the father of the child survived the fire.

Oh, thats just wonderful news. I wonder if they will show the kid, when he grows up, the footage?

According to one of today's papers, sadly the child's older brother, two cousins and an aunt were among those who died.

The M1 Northampton Services charge £1.25 for a small bottle of water - or two for £2.20. A mug of coffee is £2.20.

They also sell a 20 piece "Pedicure Set", consisting of nail scissors, nail clippers, various nail files, cuticle pusher-downer things, and this & that, all in shiny steel, & in a nice little case. The cost - £1.99. That's 10p per piece, or 9p if you value the case at 10p. (A Tom-Tom case, similar in size, costs £20). Take off retail mark-up, wholesaler margin, freight costs from (one assumes) the Far East, & someone is knocking out that set at about a quid, at most. For 20 pieces, so 5p a piece.

The Sheffield Steel Industry stood no chance. Meadowhall Shopping Centre, which sits on the site of an old Steel Foundry, is doing very nicely though.

An odd thing, the World Economy, it moves in mysterious ways.

There were several small cutlery works dotted around the foundry that used to stand on the Medowhall site.

I used to buy "Stampings" the sheets of steel from which knife shapes were pressed.

Apparantly they make more steel in Sheffield now than they ever did in the past when they employed 1000's. Its just all automated and therefore only requires a few supervisiors to look after it. The area round Meadowhall still has alot of companies still in business but hardly anyone works there. I use to work round there when I was student for DHL (beer vouchers) and it was an eerie place especially at night.
