He got 14 weeks inside, which, hopefully, will help him clean up. It'll do him a huge favour, he's on his way to an early death.

Personally, I detest him, but that's partly the Medias fault, as they lionise him, because he's a celeb who does drugs. Some of us - many of us - abhor such waste of life & lives that drug abuse causes.

But 14 weeks means, apparently, he will be out in 4. Why? That's just ridiculous.

The Government has told the Judiciary to send less people to Prison, to alleviate prison overcrowding. That's how our Government tackles crime. Did you ever hear anything so daft as that? Talk about starting at the wrong end of the problem!

This gets back to my argument with Geo - why jail him? The driving offenses, fine - he's risking others, jail him if fines/suspension don't work. Drugs - he's doing what he wants to himself, how can that be a crime?

How can it be a crime? Easy. The Law say's it's a crime. So it's criminal. We surely don't want anarchy, do we?

Don't believe putting him in a place where drugs are readily available will do much good. Probably better off some sort of community service/drug rehabilitation etc

The law says if you knock my door and ask to use the toilet I've got to let you. Or that a pregnant woman can demand to pee ina  policeman's hat if they're desperate - but the laws are stupid and not enforced.

Laws to stop idiots or malicious people hurting others, fine. Laws to protect me from myself,  talktothehand

Remember the law was brought in after pressure from the Yanks who were scared the hippy movement was going to make the younger generations ungovernable - the whole health thing's an afterthought smokescreen.

Oh dear,

The sentence handed out to him is actually a reduction on the sentence that he received for his combined drug/driving offences which was suspended on the grounds he cleaned up and behaved.

His sentence is NOT for purely drug taking.

Again I am more annoyed that probably because of his superstar status his original suspended sentence has been reduced.

Oh, and I don't think you'll find anywhere that I said people should be jailed for drug taking (as much as I detest them) merely that some do not get punished as harshly as others of lower status...........Case in point - Mr Doherty.

Laws are laws, whether we agree with them or not, I'm no innocent, however I've always taken my punishment.

I'm afraid my position on drug abuse is non-negotiable Rod, & I'm too old to see it in a new light. I think Drugs are a bad thing, end of. You can tie me in knots with esotoric arguments, & I can't respond in kind, it's all above me, but I just think & feel that drug use is not a good thing for kids to see, or do. It almost invariably has a negative affect upon lives - we can't dispute that! (Can we?.....).

Perhaps someone can jog my memory now. The Hotel by The Vic is now a Hilton, but it used to be otherwise branded. Can anyone remind me what it used to be called? It had a "Guinness Clock" outside, too, anyone remember those?

Victoria Hotel according to this site - which does make some sense. Smiley

EDIT: Here's a picture from Wikipedia - of the hotel and Nottingham Victoria rail station

Thanks Jon. The station - foreground - was demolished to make way for the Victoria Centre, but the Hotel - far right - remains. For some reason I thought the Hotel had another name. It was 40 years ago, mind.

Only the clocktower remains.

I can remember coming down from London by train to visit my grandparents, and grandpa meeting me in at Victoria.

Yes, the clocktower remains to this day.

But Ralph, I must correct you on a most important matter.

"....coming down from London by train......"

Trains come UP to Nottingham from London, not down. Nottingham is North of London.

Oddly, to Train Staff, ALL trains, when heading for London Termini, are decribed as "Up" Trains, & outbound are decribed as "Down", (thus, a Nottingham train from London is a DOWN train) but to lay passengers - & you are, if I may make so bold, a "lay passenger", it's UP to Nottingham, & DOWN to London.

I do hope that clears that up, & we can all rest easily in our beds now.......

Pretty much the last thing you should do to a drug addict is to lock them up. Why?

1) The jails are full. I thought prison was for people who are a menace / danger to society? He's no danger only to himself, surly a hospital or mental institution for drug users is more appropriate?

2) He will be able to get more smack in prison then anywhere else, whatever he wants people will fall over themselves to provide him it.

3) Re-education and helping people in other ways, drug addicts need more help than most, often blighted with mental health issues that are not helped being locked up with pedo's and murderers.

4) We will pay for him to be locked up.

I don't agree with drug taking but sending them down does nothing positive.

There was an article the other day when the reclassiification of cannabis was being mooted showing which drugs actually did a person the most harm vis-a-vis their actual classification, and including tobacco and alcohol in the scheme. The results were as follows, from most harmful to least harmful.

a) Heroin, cocaine.

b) Amphetamines, LSD.

c) Alcohol, tobacco.

d) Cannabis, marijuana, & ecstasy.

I don't think that anyone can deny that taxation is at the root of the actual classifications.

No Tony, I'm afraid that you are incorrect.

One always travels "up" to the capital city, ergo one always travels "down" when leaving it. The train staff were right.

Ralph,

Do you think or believe, that in a "significant" number of cases, the use of d) leads to the use of b) & a).

I am, of course, via tobacco, in Group C. I hope to be ex Group C soon, but I don't think Group c) leads to b), d), or a), so far as I am aware..

Thast's improper terminology for a non-geek, Ralph. How can one (unless one is a genuine Railwayman or buff) go "up" to London from Nottingham? It's south. Londoners go "up" to Nottingham, not down. We (Londoners) go DOWN to Brighton, & UP to Scotland.

Nothing to do with the railways, you always go up to the capital.
