I did have one really interesting decision in Super-Stud though, (yup, I actually managed to see 3rd street once for £60!) & it aroused much comment, & most seemed to think I got it wrong.

I was dealt.....

 

After much thought, I busted the wire-up & retained 

My thinking was "two ways to win, & more chance of the live scoop" that way. The wire-up, and I considered it vulnerable even if it housed up, could only win me half the Pot at best, though with most folks low-ing, that may be a tidy pot. 

Thoughts, please?

Keep A23 suited for sure, did you make a straight flush again?

No, I Passed when I missed on 4th Street - it was £300 to Call!

But an odd thing did happen, in the Straight Flush Department.

In Super-Stud, I held.......

 

And was all-in against Mick McCool. He was clearely low-ing & flushing, too, in spades.

I badly wanted to hit either my Low or Flush, but he got the next card - the......

Damn!

And I got the ..... .......! We tried to swap Cards, but the Dealer was not playing ball - at this stage.

So could have been worse.

Until the next Street, when THE most beautiful Dealer I ever saw - except for his moustache - dealt me the absolute dream card.

I was looking for a picture of a Headless Chicken the other day - the wonders of an inquistive & eccentric mind eh? - & came across the picture below.

If you wish to believe the story, his name was Mike. That's Mike the Headless Chicken, lest you confuse him with someone else.

A botched attempted slaughter, followed by the owners mercy & regret, meant he, well, lost his head. The story goes that he became a fairground & Casino attraction, & travelled all over America making personal appearances. Eventually, 18 months later, he died of - would you believe - he choked to death? But it was in America, land of the "only in......."

He has statues & sculptures in his memory, and even a wikipidea page.

But is it true? Get googling, & you'll find loads of doubters, & loads of believers.

I guess it does not really matter if it's true or not. Life's rich pagaent & all that.

I had a similar hand,

It was already raised, by a player who won't be folding to a reraise. I chose to keep the and not raise the pot. If I had kept 555 I would have to jam probably be heads up. As the hand played out, I made an 8 low and a flush, he made a better 8 low. We were the only ones who made 7th, couple folded on 5th, I made the flush and low on 6th. This way we chopped up some other players money rather than push them out. It's certainly easier to play trips, you have to make decisions about where you are with the other hand.

Also, opinions on whether or is better, I clearly think 3 4 5 but whenever I say that I get poo-pood

As long as the straddle is in table order it's not that terrible imo, if a live straddle is allowed from any position, well hmmm...

Excuse my inability to remember, or put names to faces, but were you in Newcastle over the weekend, at the Virgin thing? It was a bit tiring, I confess......Huge fun though.

Yup, I was one of the EMS players in the main event. Didn't make the 2nd day sadly, and got muffed in the Terminator when going nicely, but Chalky (Chris) on the main event final table's my nephew so did the family proud (after he warmed up with an APAT regional gold at Luton the week before!).

You looked a tad tired out on the street as we headed off for a Chinese after the final finished on Sunday night - not really surprising, we at least got to sit down while playing! Was a bit surprised to read that you were at work all day Monday and then on Sky Monday night too. You deserved a day off I think - lots of the players had one on Monday!

A great weekend and looking forward to the next one if I manage to get there.

Ahh, "Chalky" was a splendid chap, & I bet you are well proud of him. There were a few "double-clap" table banging buffoons, but Chalky struck me as a proper Gent. I do wish you'd introduced yourself. (Again?). I'm shocking with faces & names, sorry.

I was certainly bushed after we finished on Sunday night, then I had to drive South to Derbyshire, grab some kip, & then South again to London, & the Show. Adrenelin is a wonderful suppresant of tiredness, but I get an "adrenelin hangover" a few days later, & get all listless & tetchy. Like I am now. A bit.

I thought the general atmo was just wonderful at the Virgin weekend, very APAT/blondeBash/SkyLive-ish. But some of the youngsters - unintentionally I'm sure - just don't "get" winning with decorum & dignity. I saw one case where the geezer had half of a Big Blind, & the Chip Daddy, with three times average stack, busted him with an auto-call. Then gave the triple handclap, table bang, & "GET IN" thing. Yuk.

In the DC, it's only "in Table Order", & I assume the same in Hold 'Em.

I'm just not sure it works for DC though.

Truth is, with Live Straddles, the DTD DC will play too big for me to be comfy. Poker, for most of us, is a hobby, a recreation, a time to relax & chill, & if it's being straddle-potted very hand, as is so often the case with straddling, it all gets a bit tense & awkward. It's amazing how often I see players in that game getting all tilted up & angry. Why do so many glass half-full folks play poker? They seem to have forgotten that it's a recreation, & recreation is for enjoying, not stressing out. We should be playing poker based on our reads & skill, not "who dares wins".

I sought Kim Costa's view on this tonight, & he was astonished I "split" the wire-up. He said it was a standard "re-raise to isolate" affair, & I should have took my chances with it, & only passed if it looked like another wire-up was around.

I still don't get that, I mean, we want to win "scoops", & I'd be lucky to scoop with a high-only hand. But the body of learned evidence suggests I am thinking wrong here.

Had a marvellous evening at DTD tonight. That £100 Omaha jobbie just won't take off, & it only had 13 or 14 runners, & we all agreed to making it a single rebuy/add-on. I scraped into 2nd for £576, but it was an absolute privelege to share the table with Chubbs Nowab, John "Punk Floyd" Conroy, Tracey (looking delicious), Kim Costa, & Paul Jackson, who won it, & who just ran over the table, & thoroughly outplayed us all. I'm just in awe of his game, he has such a deep understanding of where he is, odds, when to pass, when to pop it. I was totally outclassed, but my Omaha game is actually, if basic, quite competent (I think), & I'm getting better at it. Can't fail to, sitting with those guys.

A lovely few hours, stressless & missog-less.

There was a Gentleman at the Virgin Weekend who introduced himself to me. I know him only by his Forum name (not on blonde,), but we crossed swords quite heavly during the APAT start-up phase, when everyone was on APAT's case.

He came up to me on Saturday, told me who he was, & said he'd been wrong about APAT, & he now thought they were doing an admirable job. He then PM'd m today with the same message.

I was very touched by this, it's never easy to back off after there has been head-butting. I'd love to make my peace with all those I've crossed swords with before Mr Reaper arrives.

Kenneth Williams passed away 20 years ago this week. I adored listening to him, & watching him doing his fake rant thing on TV chat-shows.

He was a compulsive Diary-writer, & left behind 30 years of bound-diaries. Like so many great comedians, he was also a tragic figure, almost clinically depressed at times.

He died in his sleep one night, & it was never really established if he died naturally, or killed himself via a deliberate medication overdose.

His final Diary entry just before bed on the fatal night, read.....

"My back pain is worse than ever, pulsating, never been as bad as this"......

...and telingly, ended.....

"Oh, what's the bloody point in going on".

He died alone, in his sleep though, whatever the cause. That is, to my mind, the ultimate passing away luxury. It'd be horrible to be terminally ill, & have friends or family round the bed, knowing it's all about to end, making all that sychophantic small-talk. When Dad was enduring his final days, he was forever apologising for being such a nuisance, causing so much inconvenience to us all. Grandad did it better. Fit as a fiddle, he just fell asleep one day & never woke up, when we all least expected it. Has to be the best bet, though I'd worry that the house was untidy, or someone would have to rake through my belongings & personal papers. And I'd be so mad if they never looked after my books properly. It'd be lovely if we knew "when" it would happen, so we could get everything in tickety-boo order. I think I'll bequeath my books to a special friend, I know he'll look after them properly. I must have thousands of books.
