I'm a little surprised that you didn't do a rough calculation of what a "DTD style" deal would have worked out at before accepting the deal Tony, but as you say £2400 is a very nice touch whatever.

Perhaps I should have done Ralph, I accept that. But there was a "context".

I'd returned for Day Two as second-low, & never had a hand all Day Two, in fact I don't think I had more than one Showdown all Day Two - an early affair, A-Q (mine) v A-T. The rest were all subtle or not so subtle nicks & steals, & I remained as Low Stack for the entire Day Two. Returning on Sunday, I was not even guaranteed any money, it was 10 returning & 9 Paid, so I was always "on the edge" of exiting. I had my optimistic glasses on, & deep down, I felt, with some luck, I could nick a top three spot. 9 players, then 8, 7, etc, & suddenly, after being up against it for the best part of 2 days, someone offers me 50% more than third place - & I'm still low-stack! What I'm trying (badly) to say here, is that my mind was in siege mentality gear, just survive, & suddenly someone offers me a Deal - the mind plays weird tricks. I was happy happy.

I did not get involved in the Deal-Talk at all, because I chose not to. I never do these days, ever. Arguing with poker players is a waste of time, & inevitably ends in bad blood, because they negotiate so badly - truly, they are the world's worst negotiators, and it goes from happy days to shouty-wouty super-quick, & all that lovely ambience we have accrued from a great "fun" Final gets washed away because some myopic greedy tosser wants to argue for £50 or £100.

I'm well aware it costs me money, but I'm not fussed. Recreational players don't make their living at the Table, it's their fun time, or is supposed to be, & if they wanna argue like kids over some aspect of poker, well, it's time they found a device with which to extract their head from their arse, because they are defeating the object of "recreation" which implies - I think - "fun".

Final Tables, especially of Two Day Events are "occasions" for me, & they are all about enjoying the occasion. I'd had a ball yesterday, & there was no way I was gonna mar the memory by getting involved in shouty-stuff - & most Final-Table Deals negotiations do.

If I considered myself a "Pro", I would, I suppose, have to consider changing my stance, but I've been horribly scarred by the way poker players argue the toss over nothing, & I want no further part of it. Their arguments, of course, are often very valid, but not their delivery. "It's not what we say, but the way that we say it". Proven by a recent "debate" which has run to the best part of 100 pages, and counting.

I guess that's why I so approve of the "DTD-Style" Deals - there is no arguing, & we all get exactly what we deserve. Good thinking by Mr Yongster & Mother Hen, because they've taken the aggro out of Deal-making. A beautiful & elegant solution, imo.

But as you kindly mentioned, Ralph, for me, £2,400 is a very nice touch, & I nicked £1,400 earlier in the week at Luton. I'm quite happy with those two cashes, & we always have to remember, both required some luck to achieve, because that's how poker works. So yes, maybe I left some cash behind, but I couldf not be more pleased with the week, really, especially after a bad fortnight. Thank you for the chance, by Posting your comment, for me to try & articulate better why I tend to accept what some consider to be "bad" Deals. For me, they are good. Always. I'd have accepted 9th place money, never mind £2,400, when I got All-In, Pre, with Kings against Turk's Aces!

I want to write all night, but I have a heavy day tomorrow, making two new & technically difficult Shows, one a 2 hour Recording, the other a 2 hour chat Show - live. At 10pm, after a long day. So I'd better draw stumps now, & get some kip.

I was in Luton on Friday, up to Walsall on Saturday, stayed up there, then, after Walsall yesterday, at 7pm, I was faced with a 1 hour drive across to DTD for the £100 Rebuy, or nearly 2 hours down to Luton. I'm trying to resist playing £100 Rebuys, & I needed to be in Feltham today, so I chose Luton. But the adrenelin hangover from the Walsall Final (I still get excited by Finals, even at my age), coupled with sleep deprivation over the last few days, hit me at about 3am, & I could barely walk or talk, I was just zonked out mentally & physically. With a 45 minute drive down to Feltham still in prospect, & add 20 minutes for a 20 mile diversion to get my Motorway Coffee fix. I slept for 9 hours straight at Jurys Inn, Heathrow, & I'm gonna try do the same thing tonight. I struggle to go the pace these days, I really do.

Stuart & myself took £2,400 each, & Turk took £4,800, all figures approx. Turk offered the Deal to Suart, I sat out of the discussion, as I always do, I was not fussed if we did a Deal or not, & was just delighted with a nice Cash.

Turk had about 70% of the Chips in play, 3 handed. Stuart had 60,000, I had 45,000, blinds were about to go 3k-6k.

Turk said to Stuart "I'll take a bit off the top, but you have to split 2nd & 3rd equally with tikay, or there's no Deal".

A bit unfair on Stuart in some ways, but as I said, I never involve myself in these discussions, as they usually become so ill-tempered. But Turk & Stuart agreed it all amiably, & I was happy with £2,400. Very. Greed is a bad thing, & it bites.

I agree with greed being a bad thing but when the 1st prize is 5,300 I dont think you are being greedy if you tell him to play on rather than give anyone 4,900 without playing another hand. Especially when 3rd prize was just short of 2 grand

Yes it was good to see you too.
 I won 500 to go with the 500 from DTD on friday. I also got 700 out of the comp at walsall tonight for a 30 quid investment so its been a good bank holiday.

After nearly 3 days of torrential rain, the sun is shining today, & the air feels so much fresher. I wonder if that improved air quality, that "freshness", is why birds sing so heartily after the rain stops? I've been watching "my" 2 Blackbirds who each own a little patch of land outside the office, & they are vey busy, fiffing & faffing about, tapping the grass to tempt beetles & insects out, but then singing with great gusto from the nearby treetops.

As you say, I was "due" a Form-reversal, my form has been appalling for a few weeks, & that was another reason why I may have been - arguably - too quick to accept the Walsall Deal. When you've been running bad, & the Bankroll has taken a hit, the guaranteed £2,400 (as opposed to either £1,600 or £5,400) looks huge, & I was just relieved to bank a nice cash. With the £1,400 earlier in the week from Luton, & after  buy-ins, I ended £3k ahead on the week, & that's just what I needed. 

This week is mostly work, with Shows on Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday, so in one sense, I have another good week in prospect.

I continue to run embarrassingly good.

It's kinda sad that this matters to me, or interests me so much, but I just need to undersrtand why birds so often sing so heartily & enthusiastically - I just don't "get it". I've seen & heard & read all sorts of explanations, but I don't buy any of them.

Animals, like humans, display body language. We can see a dog's mood by so many things - it's waggy tail, tail carriage, ears, head angle, mouth, so many ways. A cat likewise, purring, tail erect, etc.

But birds, well I can''t see much body language that I can discern, but that beautiful singing - why?

Here's the most wonderful 3 minutes of birdsong, mostly by Mr Blackbird. Can anyone identify the red-flecked bird midway through? Look how proud Mr Blackbird seems to be, & how varied his song is. Why? Whats going on here?
