On the enclosure this land was awarded to the king, as Duke of Lancaster, and it yet belongs to that duchy!

Several places across the North Yorkshire Moors - I clearly recall it in Goatland - the verges have rather posh "No Parking - By Order of the Duchy of Lancaster" signage. Who is this Duchy chap - is it Prince Charlie?

From the Duchy website...

The Duke of Lancaster
Since 1399, the title Duke of Lancaster has been held by the reigning Sovereign. Revenue from the Duchy of Lancaster forms a vital component of the Sovereign's income, and is held separately from that of other Crown properties.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the current Duke of Lancaster. During a reign which has lasted over 50 years, Her Majesty has taken a keen interest in the estate, paying regular visits to the Surveys.

The title Duke of Lancaster continues to be used, even for a female monarch. At gatherings of Lancastrians within the County Palatine and worldwide, the toast is: "The Queen, Duke of Lancaster!"

Thanks!

How very odd that the Her Queen-ness is a Duke! Typically British, aristrocratic & idiosyncratic. And lovely.

I wonder if buzzards are becoming more widespread?  I've seen several lately.

I am quite sure they are Tom, though I've no way of knowing for sure. Perhaps I'd not noticed them before, but I see them almost daily now - magnificent creatures. They can hover "on the wind" endlessly, without, it seems, moving a muscle.

Tom has told me this story many times, but I was reminded of it yesterday in a wonderful prog on R4 about bird & animal migration.

They discussed the fact that Swifts come to Britain in April & May to nest & breed, & then they leave the nest - & never land again, ever! (Except, I assume, to annually nest & breed). They must eat & drink "on the wing", but it still takes some believing. How extraordinary.

Anyway, I better write some non-birdie stuff, in case I get in trouble again.

I spotted this beauty in Brighton Station Car Park on Sunday morning. It's just so functional, in every sense. I googled it & was amazed to find it has it's own Website, & the Web is full of pics of it. It was even hired for a funeral once.

It was coach-built in Aldenham in '65, & had 5 re-paints - red-green-red-green-green in it's time, & three engine replacements.

Everything about it is gorgeous - even the destination board - "to & from Steam Trains".

For the ignorant amongst us, it's a RM (Routemaster), second only in Bus Legend to the amazingly iconic RT's & RTL's.

Tissues at the ready.

I shared (poker) Tables with Le Knave & Sludge - sorry, Sledge - on Sunday at DTD, what great guys they are, & wonderful Table Company, impeccably mannered but capable of mixing it with anyone. I like them both immensely.

Le Knave - real name, I gather, Dave Jones - wtf? - must be one of the best-looking boys I've ever seen, stunningly handsome, with just a touch of that Flushy effiminance, & something weird going on with his hair, sort of twirly-wirly. And cool bins. The lady who gets him will do well for herself.

The Boy Band & their ilk are a terrific credit & asset to blonde, they really are. Overly mischievoius at times - as we'd wish any kid of ours to be - but well-meaning, & although their penchant for mischief is always around, they soon get in line when approached in an adult manner.

Up the Boy Band, I say.

Talking of Flushy effiminance, he graced the Sky Brighton Day with his presence - invited especially as a "Celeb"! - & livened up proceedings a treat, he was on great form. I was a bit bothered by the pics on blonde showing him with a Sailor, so here's on to redress the balance. The young chap with him is one Barbara Viola, a very tidy player indeed.

Routemasters have reappeard in Nottingham. One route to/from Arnold run by a rival to Nottingham City Transport. Usually seen with 1 conductor, driver and possibly as many as 2 passengers Smiley

Really? What colour? (The RM's, not the passengers). What numbers are they? The CLT prefix?
