Routemasters have reappeard in Nottingham. One route to/from Arnold run by a rival to Nottingham City Transport. Usually seen with 1 conductor, driver and possibly as many as 2 passengers Smiley

Really? What colour? (The RM's, not the passengers). What numbers are they? The CLT prefix?

Very dark red. Tried to find a pic on Thisisnottingham but no joy...I think bellamy's of nottingham may be co. running them

Shit, Flushy's on thread, time to go time.

So much to write, so little time. Luton £50 + £50 awaits. Feltham all day tomorrow, the Five-O Show (my favourite) in the evening, back home after, Luton Friday night, & a 'plane out of Luton Airport - groan - at 0630 (!) Saturday morning in readiness for APAT Dublin, the toughest (physically, so many stairs) of all APAT gigs.

I pokered with a Gentleman at Luton, I think (not certain) his name was Gordon White. Apparently he designed, or had something to do with, the software for "chip & pin" Credit cards, & sold the patent for zillions to the clearing banks.

He's a most charming & erudite individual, but he came up with a brain-teaser & I'm not certain he's correct. We decided to have a £100 bet on it.

He said there are only two words in the English Dictionary that contain all five vowels in the "correct" order - a, e, i, o, u.

I disputed this, but I came up with one, which he & others claimed did not exist.

His two words were.....

Fascetious.

Abstemious

I conceded both of them, but said, there & then, that this one also counted.....(He claimed it was not a word).

Abstentious. (Which I've googled tonight, & is correct).

So there are at least three. Anyone know any more?

Does anyone know why, when playing Online Poker, it's customary to have aliases which do not reflect our real names?

I was totally knackered on Monday with the mother & father of adrenelin hangovers after a hyper weekend, but I still played Luton Monday night because Live Poker, with convivial Table Company, is so relaxing & amiable, & I'm totally at ease in these conditions, 100% in my element. Small Comps do me nicely, & so while Red is burning up the zillion runner Online Tourneys for tidy money, (he did it again tonight!) I'm more than happy to fish in far shallower waters. The Luton midweek fields are rarely above 40 or 50 runners, & if you can dodge the early-paced maniacs, there's always good chance of a little cash.

I ended up 3rd on Monday, & after a most generous deal by Tighty in which we'd pre-agreed to split 2nd & 3rd money (we were both in dire straits when we struck the deal), I pocketed £565 I think, for a £100 outlay. Tighty actually chopped it Heads-Up. Three-handed, I was a poor 2nd in chips, but I found Aces for the Chip Lead, & as I got called by Nines, I was all ready to suggest a three-way chop immediately after the hand. But counting chickens is a bad thing, Lionel caught , & I departed 3rd, a shade disappointed I guess.

I am on a bit of a roll right now, just little cashes here & there - Luton, Walsall, Blackpool, & I managed to do it again tonight, accepting what I now realise was a pretty poor (for me) Deal & taking home £600 even.

I had a torrid time the first few Levels, having to Pass a bad Flush (correctly), & Trip Queens (ditto), but it's about the war, not the battle, & I can Pass these all day if the need arises.

I fiffed & faffed around low-chipped for hours, & then got into a bizarre argument with a Gent - who we shall call Mr MYOB - who claimed I'd acted improperly in a hand. Tom Myland had Pushed all-in for about 3k, I had just over 6k (way sub-average) & pocket Jacks. When it was me to act - Mr MYOB was behind me - I said to Tom - "OK Tom, let's go to war. How much have you Bet?". He said "2,975". So I start counting my Chips out, as I always do pre-pushing, (behind the line) in readiness to go All-In.

Mr MYOB - yet to act - now pipes up & says I can only Call. What? WHAT?

"Why so my friend?", I enquire.

"Because you said "let's go to war", which implies you are calling". Eh?

I was more than a tad miffed with Mr MYOB, & eventually, not wanting - ever - to get involved in  contentious, "messy" or disputed hands, Passed my Jacks - & Mr MYOB Passed, too. Tom showed A-8. Technically, at this juncture, I think Tom could "claim" my 2,975, because though I never said "Raise" or "Call", my intent was obvious, I was moving in to isolate. But Tom did not pursue any claim on the Pot. Sadly, deep-stacked Mr MYOB donked off his stack a little later. Wink

Anyway, I soldiered on, short-stacked, then hit a run of cards, & built up to average, then I ran my Q-Q into A-K & my hand held, suddenly I'm double average, & the Hands kept coming, & I was soon Chip Leader. I was able to pick off the Shorties one by one with dubious calls - oh the pleasure of a deep-stack! - & eventually Finalled more than double average.

With only 5 paid, though, there was still work to do. My plan was to sit out pretty much, just as well, as I was card-cold, & Simon Galloway, short-stacked all Final, was working his Micro-Stack extremely hard. He unluckily exited in 5th or 6th but picked up a few bob.

With 4 left & the stacks lop-sided, I had 50k, so did 1 other, one had 35k, & the Chippie had 120k+, a Deal was proposed, & I happily accepted £600, as did two others, with the winner taking a generous £1,000 net of bits & bobs. Not the greatest deal for me, really, but you can't put a price on contentment. If my QQ had lost to A-K earlier I' have been gone there & then.

I could play these little Comps 7 nights a week, quite happily. I shared Tables with Rich Prew, Lalit (I respect him muchly, what a character), HoldorFold Mich, Simon Galloway, Pepe, etc, & had the most pleasing of evenings.

Feltham in the morning, all day in the Office, Five-O in the evening, then back home.

+ a few two or three word phrases with the same condition, but personally I don't think they count

And re your question about poker aliases, I'm one of those people. My name is Andrew, and on every other forum/site I register with, I use a variation of real name/surname as a user ID, but when I first registered online (Party, about 3 years ago now), I just wanted something a bit more interesting, anonymous and slightly nerdy. So I decided rex (latin: king) and 008 (one better than 007 Smiley). Didn't help much, I'm still playing $30SNGs  Roll Eyes  Cheesy.

Don't make me mad

Does anyone know why, when playing Online Poker, it's customary to have aliases which do not reflect our real names?

The first time I ever played Online - back in the Paradise Poker ground-breaking days, pre 2000, I was taken aback by this oddity. Then I noticed that the same thing happens on Forums.

Why is this, particularly as to Online Poker, does anyone know?

As Snatty said..there are millions of people with a similar name in the world.

As far as i go...Friends of mine who go WAY back have called me "Boldie" (after a horse called Boldedge) for ages..don't even remember when it started to be honest but it was roundabout 97/98 when the nickname started. The horse had come out and won his very first race as a 2YO in 97 and was regarded as top class but never quite lived up to it as a 2YO, as most of the progeny of Bevemer it took him a while to grow into himself and he made a decent 3YO...but was always slightly short of top class. I kept telling people that this horse was the bee's knees but they thought I was nuts. He was always in the best races and did OK..finally at the end of his 3YO season he picked up a  listed class race.
By then people already called me "boldie". I had kept on backing the horse and losing my money..and to be fair the horse had become slightly dissapointing to follow (much like my footie career had gone) ..when he won his listed race I told everyone who wanted to hear that "this horse will win a British Group 1 race" and had several bets with people who thought I was mad.

The horse came back as a 4YO and hacked up in a listed contest..and my friends were getting worried as he really looked good (and being by Bevemer he was only getting stronger)..the race after that he did FA but he picked up a nice group 2 and then by George he went and took another...but still hadn't picked up a group 1 race...he finally achieved that when winning in France in 2000. He won a tidy race there and finally got his G1...I was on in a massive fashion that day at he won at 9-1.

For my bet it was pointless as it wasn't a British group 1 but by that time the nickname had already firmly stuck...according to my friends (and they might be lying so who knows) they called me that because "There might be some class there (to win something decent) but you'll never know when he'll show it"..cheecky sods...but they haven't been proved too far wrong thusfar and I'm happy enough for people, especially my friends, to just call me "Boldie" and as far as nicknames go it's not the worst Smiley

Note; I had to write this with a little help from the Racingpost as I couldn't remember exactly when he won his second listed race.

No idea, but he repeated it numerous times - "you said "let's go to war" - that's obviously implies you are Calling".....!

Some folks just go looking for aggro & trouble, others are conciliatory, or walk away from it. I imagine he's hen-pecked at home, & the Poker Table gives him - in his mind - power.
