Andrew T ruminates thusly.....
We have been arguing at cross purposes on this thread, but that's because some people haven't stated what position they're advocating properly. They started with 'taking a % of the prize pool costs players more money', which is obviously not true, when in fact they meant 'taking a % of the prize pool will allow casinos to be more sneaky and surreptitiously take more money from players who are not wise to what they are doing', which is true, but a different argument from the one originally stated.
One answer is simply for it to be a rule that the % taken out of prize pools is clearly stated on all marketing and advertising which mentions the tournaments - I would have assumed that any changes in gaming regulations which allows % to be taken from prize pools would have this requirement stipulated.
And he gets it spot on.
Whether "embedded" Reg Fees cost me more, or not, I'm not, personally, much fussed, though others clearly are.
Messing with the Prize Pools, deviously or not, is my gripe.
I'm teliing you, & I've never been more certain of anythng - it's the thin end of an ugly wedge. Grosvenor are fine & dandy & trustworthy, but once it's seen they can get away with 10% deduction from Prize Pools, (& Grosvenor are "The Daddy" of UK Tourney Venues, so others follow their lead) wait & see what Venues with less integrity get up to.
Don't say I never warned you.

There is now no legislation covering cardrooms as such, therefore they can get away with not being transparant now.
Once we (the players) allow them to start taking money out of a pool, the % will gradually increase.
If they stick with registration fees, we can at least make a choice whether to play or not, as we will be able to see the charge.
In some respects, poker was better off being governed by the then gaming board. There used to be a maximum charge of 10% as a fee and it was always stipulated and understood that 100% of the monies collected in regards to the tournament MUST be paid out as prizes. The Gaming Board used to be protection for the customers and casinos, and indeed when they stipulated that 100% MUST be paid out, it was for the players protection. That protection does not exist now, therefore the poker players are now at risk of being taken advantage of.

Thanks Kev - Flushy would suit me fine, or any Serial-Raiser - they suit my game perfectly, as I can re-pop every now & then. Then go back to sleep.
I do actually think Flushy's a superb, & very hard to play, opponent.
I plan to keep asking him "how much did you Raise, Mr Plumpy?". That'll tilt him a treat.

Before I regale you with the story, on reflection, my Post this morning suggesting I was "lukewarm" towards playing the GUKPT was ill-advised I think - though it's an honest Diary, & that's how I felt at the time.
In fact, once I settled in, it was enormous fun, & the atmo was quite splendid. I shall save up my pennies & have another go when my Diary permits.
So many friends there, & I'm actually more disappointed that I'm history than I usually would be. Perfectly organised & run, with a great bunch if players. I so wish I was still in.
My thanks go to those who gave me the Seat, & to Sky for suggesting I do a Live 'Phone-In to tonight's Show from the Table. "Technical Issues" got in the way......
Tomorrow, I go home, & I've decided to go & see the quack. I'm distinctly second-hand at the mo, & only operating at quarter throttle.
Right, a few pics.......
