Wow, what a small world!

You are indeed correct, Denis & Gerry do a lot of work together, as Partners in various ventures. I don't know the ins & outs, & it would be wrong to go public on them even if I did, but Denis & Gerry do a lot of work as Partners, so it's entirely possible that Gerry has an "interest".

I only met Gerry once, at his office, somewhere in West London I seem to recall. It was right by a Canal, & I somehow got lost found myself on the towpath - in a Beemer, ffs! - & had to reverse two miles.......

Denis is a very successful businessman indeed, by any standards, & is immensely well-heeled. He is in Computers, & owns a very large company, & he lives in a splendid pile in Richmond. Fair play to him, he's a bright guy.

So, back to Luton.

Somehow I get involved in the DC Cash-Game, my self-discipline in these things is slightly less than zero. I had decided to give Cash a rest for a few weeks. The night before.

I sit there for 5 hours, until thrown out at 5am, get home at 6.30m, & so have felt wrecked all day.

I sat down with £500, rocked-up, nicked a big scoop in Super-Stud, & ended up £280 ahead, no big deal.

It was a fun Table. Chandra, Asif, Gino, Chinese Alan (terrific lad), two Hold 'Em players, & John Vacc. Chandra is the value, but he's dangerous, as he plays extremely deep, & is fearless. He sat down with £500, but had £3k behind, gulp.

But we had a really odd half-hour or so. John Vacc was several pull-ups down - he was repeatedly pulling up short, £200 at a time, & "gambling".

So he & Chandra decided to gamble, & just Raised & Re-Raised everyone out of every Pot, "pre", & totally Blind. Eventually, Chandra busted John, & that was that.

I really don't understand that mentality. There's plenty of roulette Tables at Luton-G, but these boys just decided to move in blind, hand after hand. I'm not sure how much skill that takes, (well, I am....) but you need bigger cocks than I possess to play that game. I'd have taken them on if I found the right hand, but knowing it would cost a full £500 pull-up if I entered the Pot, I declined, & even mucked A-A-6-7-8 pre, suited, in Super-Stud. Any pretence of Skill was totally obliterated (not that I am well-endowed there, either), & I simply don't know why I sit at Games when this happens - which is quite frequent. I suppose it has more variety than Roulette, but it makes no sense to me at all.

I truth, I suppose I should not sit at these games unless I have £2k or £3k behind, & that ain't gonna happen. But if it did, I'd play poker, not blind-mans bluff.

the first time i met Ged was saldy at my grandads funeral about 5/6 years ago. He learnt that i was beginning to play poker and gave me £200 to enter a comp,
i put a bit towards myself and entered a £300rb at sheffield with just one bullet. I wrote a post entitled "camel lucky" i got my whole stack in with a str8 vs two sets of 2 pairs and the case 6 hit the river. Of course i now realise the play was pretty standard but at the time i thought camel played it badly lol.

Ged rung me and i told him my beat and he said go play the £500 main event next day, speak to Dave Welch, he's meeting denis and he will buy you in.
So off i trundled to owlerton and lasted a long time playing pretty well ( i think) getting in with AA vs a flush draw which hit. I believe denis and dave were meeting regarding the aces poker site which didnt materialise. I met Ged in the vic in 03/04 and we played a sattelite to the 1st ept, i got a seat but opted for the £2800 instead of the £3k seat as i was only 18 and thought, with that air of youthfull arrogance that ill come back and play next year when i dont need the £3k as much. (i used it to pay off one of my student overdrafts) looking back now i wish i would have played it then as i was playing good fearless poker, and a good showing could have lead to great things. Alas ive had a few calls but not seen Ged since. We were supposed to meet last year in the vic for the gukpt but he had business so couldnt make it. I owe a lot to him for getting me on the road to what i am doing now for a living. If your paths happen to cross in the near future do say hi from me Plz.

I had a pleasant surprise in store at Luton, when I saw Tighty.

As you know, he's embarked on a Snatty-stylee (!) Diet, & I know it's very tough for him, especially as he lives alone, which is a big handicap, I think, in dieting.

He has to drink, I forget exactly how much, but about 5 gallons of water a day, as part of the dietary process, which must be hell.

But you know what - he looks 100% better already. Not in his weight - he's dropped over half-a--stone, though I can't see that, as I've never seen him as a large person anyway. But it's in his complexion, in his face, that the difference was so marked - he really does look so much healthier already.

Well done him, & I hope he perseveres.

I need to drop a stone, too, but my motorway-coffee addiction has gotten hold of me real bad, & it's a struggle to get started. And probably a bit late in life to worry about such things health-wise - it's more vanity than anything else with me, I hate being pot-bellied, & it looks even worse on Telly. If I ever got any more TV work, I'd certainly give dieting another try, as I'm quite conscious of my creeping weight-gain.

Anyway, keep it going Tighty, you looked so much better already.

I'm fascinated by these modern diets, too. I used to diet every other year, & my method was simple. Spaghetti Bolognese - home cooked, as much as I could eat - & grapes - pounds & pounds of them, 3 or 4 pounds a day. I'd lose 10lb a week that way, & it had the bonus of the most splendidly musical flatulence, too.

Wow, interesting stuff!

I was not aware that Denis & Dave Welch moved in the same orbit. There's a story, Mr Welch, but I think we had better not go there! Dave lives in Burton-on-Trent these days, with Debbie I assume, but I've not seen him for a while. But every time I see Marcel Luske, he asks me if I've seen Mr Welch. "Leave me out of that" I always say! One does not mess with Marcel. Well, THIS one does not.

The Dave Welch - "The Ambassador" - story is quite deep, & incredibly fascinating, & involves all sorts of peeps in the poker world, but I'm never gonna tell that story! I hasten to add, by the way, that it does not involve Denis.

"You do have made a Will Mr Kendall, yes?".

Not entirely sure what point he was making, but I have had a lot of late nights recently.

For lovers of Nature, &, err, Mathematics, ONLY.

This clip is 5 minutes long, & ends with a question by David Attenborough, about a natural phenomona. And the answer can be found in, of all places, David Singh's excellent tome "Fermat's Last Theorem". Maths & Nature are amazingly intertwined, it seems.

I'm surprised nobody has yet pointed you at the first new steam locomotive to have been built for close on 50 years.

So, TK, what's the A1 class like?

That isn't Andrew Wiles's proof.

I specialised in number theory in my degree, but quite frankly I can't be bothered to check this one to see if it's correct.

He may actually be right that it could be similar to the one Fermat had in mind but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's right.

In the absence of any academic rigour analysing this proof, I'm not really going to bother reading it in any detail.

Wikipedia has a little about it which is more interesting - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermats_Last_Theorem#Mathematics_of_the_theorem_and_its_proof
