Thanks for that byron.
I was not aware he had trained as a masseur, & that's ironic, as he suffered terribly from back pain, & that may have contributed to his suicide.
If he were alive today, he could name his price as a journo. Top-Quality poker-pennage, stuff that really makes you ooh & aah & think, is amazingly rare these days.

Despite a very tidy field for Mondays £100, last night Luton Event managed only 40 odd runners I'm told.
It begs the question, with Gala & DTD both doing their thing this weekend, how many runners will Saturday's excellently structured Main Event make? And tonight's £200 Omaha? I shall play the Omaha, but probably swerve the Main, as I can get more bangs per buck at DTD - a £300, £200, & a £150 7 Card Stud, on three consecutive days. That's quality scheduling, for my money, anyway.

think tonight's Omaha will be busy. night before the champion of champions event, a lot of those runners will be playing
I fear for the weekend's main though. 300+ runners going to be at dtd and bristol combined for starters, and the three luton side events fri-sun (200,150,100) are a nice package to play compared to a 750 with maybe only 25-30 runners
they've been unlucky, the Xmas cracker was in the schedules from January, but competition elsewhere, arranged later, came and swallowed them up

Sometimes I remember Tourneys just by a one-off "cameo" hand.
I plsyed 2 Brighton Tourneys last week, came up short in both, a little unluckily, but will remember the £500 for one particular hand, which, oddly, did not involve Albert, as it was the only hand he Passed pre all night.
It went Raise, Call, Call.
The Board was checked all the way - K-K-T-T-4.
"On their backs" says the pony-tailed Dealer. Nobody shows, it's that "I'm a bit embarrassed, you show first", "No, YOU show first" syndrome. We sat & chatted, I fell asleep, & one guy went for a tom-tit, & eventually, one guy timidly turns over pocket eights. And both other players threw their hands in the muck, much relieved not to have to show.
"8 high wins" says the Dealer.
But there was an even better hand at Luton....

My memory of the Luton £100 is just what a lovely atmo, all night, & playing among so many pals. Dave Courteney, Chomspter, Vinny, Pelham Boy, Lucky, Lalit, Jim McBride, Edna, these are Luton furniture, great guys, all of them. Except Edna. Compo woulda been in his element. I shared Tables with Pelham Boy - great craic - & Lucky, all night, in fact, & despite departing in 14th from a 121 runner field, I never moved Tables all night.
My Table Draw included, as seems mandatory these days, Tom Myland, who announced at the very start "I've no idea how they are going to get this finished tonight, it's ludicrous that it's a one-dayer". He then setted twice in Level One, & slow played Queens beautifully to 4 flush them, to get a decent stack. Then he Raised UTG, & it went Re-Raise, Re-Re-Raise, call All-In, & gets back to Tom. Tom gives some theatricals, as only he can, then says "Call", & that, fairly obviously, was that.
Also on the Table was a guy variously known as John Mac, John McFair, & various other anagrams of Jonny MacSomebody. He'd be well placed in Online Databases if he stuck to one name, but he seems to have 4 or 5 different names. Fine player, been around for years, comes & goes, very much old school. He has a bearing somewhere between ultra-confident & arrogant, which makes for fun when playing him, speech play ftw. He makes a lot of moves - perhaps a shade too many - so he's the perfect oppo for me. Good table company, too.
But it was the arrival of Bingo Bill that livened things up, & pretty much killed my chances of winning the Event. Hitherto, I could steal at will to maintain my stack around average, as I had to, with no starting material to play with. Pelham Boy, two to my right, is a handful, but he was chipped up, so fairly passive by now. But Bingo Bill cut off my supply completely, sat to my immediate right.
He arrived at Table Fun with about 4 Tables still remaining. A skip was required to carry his chips across, & we all had to move our seats to make room for his mega-stack. I've played Cash with Bingo Bill, & you have to get lucky so to do, because the List to sit with him is usually 20 strong, folks pay £500 just to sit at his Table. He's "Albert-style", but if he's "hitting", watch yourself.
So, Bingo Bill starts doing his dancing thing. He never raised in thousands, he raised in centimetres, grabbing great huge handfuls of chips & messily throwing them in with gay abandon, often not even looking at his cards. It was a nightmare, a bloody nightmare.
As per, he chucked in about 3 inches of chips, & John Mac, in the BB, decided to look him up. "Call" says John.
We see this flop, rainbow.
3-4-5.
John checks, Bingo Bill, midway supping a drink, & not even looking at his stack, feels for his chips insta-chucks in 9 inches this time.
John gives it some dwellage. Now, I can tell you, John held A-2 - he'd flopped the bottom straight. Very nice. So he gives a lovely bit of speech-play, turning the dial a tad towards arrogant.
"Tell you what I'm gonna do Bill. I'll let you have one more cheap card. I call".
The Turn was a blank, a K in fact.
John now says "OK Bill, you've had your cheap card. I'm all-in. How do you liike that?"
Bingo says nothing, except "Call". And turns over 6-7, for the flopped nuts.
Bingo went on to win the event hard-held, in a canter. One of the games real characters. I'm gonna try & get him to do a TV Interview, or appear as a Sky Poker Guest, he'd be awesome.

At my first table last night I was sandwiched between the comedy genius that is Woodley, a guy who had aces twice, kings once and queens once in the first two levels, and Bingo. Just had to sit there doing nothing but never boring.

Good spot. How did you know that?
played against him for ages. Never knew there was any ambiguity about his name!
He now mostly plays the Ware/Borehamwood/Stanmore circuit
Good player, but gets too cocky and usually does a move too far at the wrong time

You cannot make this stuff up.
"Cowell plays shy for a change
" runs a headline in today's Independent.
It goes on to say that he's had enough media attention. The Statement was attributed to Max Clifford, his publicist......

Bill, who rarely passes "any two" in Hold 'Em, played tonight's Omaha, & was in his element - there are few 4 card hands he could even consider passing. He bamboozled the Big Boys for a while, but eventually Bingo succumbed. "Housey Housey" shouted his oppo.
