A strange evening at Luton tonight.
Here's Vinni, aka Celtic.
That's Mr & Mrs Paul King sat behind him.

When I was over at Karabiner's place yesterday, I looked in vain for the Ian Wright Cuckoo-Clock, but he was kind enough (listen up Kev...) to fire up his PC to show me a rather excellent Blog. It was called "Arseblog", & for non-football fans, please don't jump to conclusions there - it's a Blog about Arsenal. (A Football Team of outstanding merit).
As footie Blogs go, & if you ignore football fans parochial leanings (almost impossible - a Blog about a Team you don't support is, it seems, bad by definition), it was beautifully constructed, nice rounded pennage, a little myopic perhaps, but with none of the usual grammatical catastrophes you come to expect in these things.
I must confess this caught my eye. (go to
http://www.oleole.com/blogs/arseblog
to see it in all it's naked & un-censored glory).
In other news Arsene Wenger has called Graham Poll an embarrassment, which is the most creative spelling of the word 'cu**' I've ever seen
Even a Spurs supporter has to applaud that.

89 turned up at Luton tonight for their beautifully structureed £150, 10,000 chip, 45 minute clock affair.
Looking to continue a run of 4 straight Finals, & after a short poker break, never was I more convinced I would Final in this, & despite motoring low-stacked for much of the Event, I was always "comfy". But a big car crash saw my Aces usurped by the unlikely A-Q combo, & I was sent packing, tail firmly between legs. I wish I could play these sort of Events every night.
Ding, Celtic, Chomps, & Pelham were all going along very nicely when I departed.
Dave Courteney ran up a huge stack early doors, but perished half-way, & Claw had no luck at all, & was gone very early, becoming unwittingly entangled in one of the most bizarrely played hands I've seen in many a year.
An excellent evening, & I was genuinely disappointed to exit 3 Tables out, it's kinda like leaving a party just when it starts to get interesting.

I hope that power-cut that occurred ten minutes after you departed did not hinder your homeward journey Tony.
Thank the lord for candles, wine, cigars and i-pods to while away two and half hours.
No, I witnessed no such power cut Ralph. Timing is all.
I did rather enjoy you explaining the ins & outs of Exchange "Betting" on Betfair, & I had a long look at it again today. Over £4 million was matched on the King George, but that was dwarfed by the fotball section, where a quite stunning sum had been wagered - over £40 million I seem to recall, & over £2million was running on one of the two current Test Matches.
I've spent a life time gambling, both traditional, & spreads, but I've never ventured near the Exchanges, & it's quite an eye-opener.
"Laying", effectively backing a selection to lose, will never come easily to me, it seems so back-to-front. The only analogy I can think of is billiards, which I tried to take up after a long spell playing snooker, & I could never get used to the idea that it was good to go in off!
Must resist........

The exchanges are an amazing operating tool..it's fantastic as it gives normal people a chance to say "That favourite has no chance" and make a bit of money out of it...whereas they always used to go and look for another horse in the race.
And you should resist Tony, you've spoken many a time on here about your gambling days and you seem much happier now that they are behind you. Therefore there is nothing for you there.

As I was saying to you Tony, I am basically a punter not a layer but in sports betting, especially golf the "lay" side is essential for adjusting one's position and achieving the security of being "greened out", ie guaranteed in profit.
I will very occasionally lay an odds-on favourite that I don't fancy but other than that it's just for hedging.

It was that which most caught my eye Ralph, to be honest. I've bet on pretty much everything in my time, but never golf, because, well, it's obvious really, it's a bit tough to punt in a game where the skill of the players is so closely matched, & there are so many runners - hundreds! - with only one winner. But with the Exchanges, Golf must be just about the perfect "Exchange" betting medium, for the reasons you explained. The same would go to almost any "long-duration" event, such as, say, Test Cricket, too, or even NFL. If I had my time again, I'd love to get a real handle on Exchange betting, but it's a little late now, & not very wise (for me) I fancy.

When I was punting horses big time, it was often the case that there'd be a bad race, a Plate, Maiden, or Seller, in which you'd look at the card & say "jeez, these are all so bad, NONE of them can win it", & so it had to be "no-bet". To be able to lay the jolly in these affairs must be manna from heaven.
But no worries, I'll resist, I ain't going there again, my punting days are over. I hope......
I must have had a bet every day of my life, for 30 odd years, (with a 5 or 10 year sabbatical midway) but I've not had a single bet, traditional or Spread, on anything, since the very first day I started playing poker. Poker completely & totally satisfies all my gambling desires, &, for the first time ever, I've found a gambling medium in which I can make a little money, one way or another, year in, year out. So, no need to change, despite the fact that those Exchanges are capturing my imagination right now.
I'll retire from poker at some stage, and that'll be the end of my time in gambling. What fun it's been, though!

I read today that on Christmas Day, Eartha Kitt died - she was 81!
In her day, she was as sexy & sultry as they came, a real eye-opener in those days.
She once reduced Lady Bird Johnson to tears, at an offiicial White House Dinner, after some "edgy" comments on the Vietnam war, & was banished from hob-nob society for many years, as a result, but eventually she was accepted back.
I don't know what caused her death - though at 81, I guess it's no surprise.
RIP Miss Kitt.

This reminds me of the time once when at the Epsom derby i backed a horse to come last with a m8 of mine we both put £2 on it @25-1 Zind was the nags name and we only picked it because the night before on teletext it said it was a good bet to come last such was its donkeyness .now we only ever went to the derby for the drink,i belonged to a social club who always took 2 coachloads of people with a mega barbecue and draught beer, and disco we used to do this every year and it was a great day out up on the downs,it lost its appeal when they moved it to a Saturday, anyway back to the horse,we went to the bookie after the race and he told us it came 3rd and the favourite came last! i just tossed my ticket away and went back to the coaches, when we got back to the club someone put the teletext on for the results and we saw it had actually came last ffs!!!!! luckily my m8 had his ticket in his wallet.I got onto the jockey club and it went to tatterstalls i think who looked into it and eventually we got our money back £50 each and the bookie was banned from Epsom for life. That was the last time i ever backed a horse.

You won't be visiting chez Chompy imo. I tried to win you for a night but ran kings into aces. It's about time Snatty let someone else have the lever imo.
I would have worn the wig and everything, having retrieved it from the back garden this morning. Last I saw of it last night one of my cats had it in her mouth and took off through the cat flap with it...

my kk was no good against jq. I lasted 8 minutes. Had a proper ding moment (hour) though and only just realised the programme on t'telly now is not tonight's game.
