Some interesting perspectives here on poker as dangerous.
If you are a snooker pro and get dicked 5-0 in every game you play you can quickly arrive at a safe conclusion that you don't have what it takes. In poker, with luck clouding the judgement much more, you can usually find a reason why you have had the poker equivalent of a 5-0 dicking for a while. "AK v 88 and I didn't get there - what can you do?" When most likely, there was lots you could have done a little bit earlier, like amassing a monster stack so that losing that flip brings you back to average rather than out the door. But the high variance is an easy and sometimes convenient shield to hide behind.
That's mostly as a reminder to myself rather than a comment to the board.

Even though I enjoyed Vegas I look back and wish I'd taken someone with me as a week was too long to just play poker pretty much non stop.

What it must feel like to be a 'pro' on a bad trot, still needing to get up and play, is just too dire to contemplate.
Getting up each morning to get on the train to a job I didn't want to do felt worse tbh.
Very true, Simon.
Many players kid themselves, moan week after week about bad-beats, but as you say, it's not really Bad-Beats, it's just "not good enough". That includes me, but I traded down to a Level where I don't lose money, & still get the buzz. It's called Lovely-Land.
I've been to GUKPT's, for example, & a well-known - VERY well-known - poker face arrived, totally penniless, owing money to half the room, & still manages to nip enough to play the whole Fessie, from start to finish. It's self-delusion, he thinks he's profitable, but running bad. In fact, he's just bad.
Anyway, it's time I shut up on this, I sound like Lord Moany of Moany-Ville.

Where is this big news or interesting news?
It's neither big, nor interesting, just, you know, something I need to say.
I'm busy right now though, trying to finish a Bloggie-Jobbie.

Bloggie-Jobbie - is that like a Captain's Log?

Surely that's a good picture Tikay?
FMP
Brilliant!
Is that a King, or a Castle?
Note the Pullman-liveried slam-door rolling stock, too. I have that very picture on my Bedroom Wall at home. It's impressed many a visitor when I point it out.

Please don't get confused Jon.
The Bristolian was an Express Service that worked the Paddington-Bristol Temple Meads run. It was a TRAIN.
A TRAIN is the LOCOMOTIVE and ROLLING STOCK (coaches, wagons) as a unit.
It was hauled by a 4-6-0 Castle or King Class STEAM LOCOMOTIVE.
We must not confuse Locomotives with Trains. They are as different as cement & concrete, or ceilings & roofs.

Spectacular, Jim.
It's better, though, if the picture includes the "Encore" (?), it's near identical twin, right next door.
Long time no Post Jim - you OK?
