18 Years ago today ....

My first born child made an appearance, a beautiful, healthy baby boy. His name was decided before this day and on the 14th August 1989 we welcomed Liam Scott Shepherd into the world.

I remember it like it was yesterday, I remember the midwife passing me my firstborn Son and i held him for the first time, i think I cried more than him !!, tears of pride, relief at his wellbeing, and just amazement at this little human being in my arms .... the realisation that you are responsible for creating life is some head rush !.

Days turned into weeks and weeks into months, I cherished every milestone in Liam's life, his first words, his first steps etc etc ...there was never any prouder Dad in this world there couldn't have been, its not possible. well that was how i felt anyway.
I held his hand as he went under anaesthetic for a couple of operations throughout his years, I have witnessed every step of the transformation from new born baby to 18 year old man. I have laughed with him and I have cried with him, I have given him advice and he has taught me just as much .. if not more over the years.

Anyway, today Liam Scott Shepherd is 18 years old, where have the years gone ? ... I look back over the 18 years he has been on this earth and there is one thing that stands out more than any other. I am as proud a Dad today as I was on this day 18 years ago, there is no prouder Dad in this world ... I have a healthy, intelligent, handsome Son with a great personality, he is tolerant and kind, he is good natured and polite, I have a relationship with him that means more to me than any material thing ever could, sometimes i wonder how we survived those 18 years ... but we did, we got through it ...and whats more, we got through it together....
