how come when its  (51%) v  Two Clubs two spades (49%) the 6,7 is a "clear favourite" but later on 8,8 (55%) v KQ (45%) is a "virtual coin flip"

he's hyper critical of any tight or trap play whether it goes wrong or right but against any decent aggressive opposition he becomes tight-weak himself

wish I could watch it with the sound off but Jesse May cracks me up. Bring back Padraig Parkinson as a partner for Jesse. Comedy gold

Apologies.  Far bigger comm cock-ups made during filming but two shows a day (commentated on live with no post production/editing) for ten hours a day for two weeks straight means plenty of this happens

surely sky and ladbrookes have some money for post prodution editing and correcting mistakes

pulling off 10 hour shifts of watching live poker would crack anyones minds

the poker millions used to be the 2nd best show around (after LNP)

but has fallen right down the ladder

even the structure makes it no more than a crapshoot with a big prize pool IMHO

I think Roy does a good job alongside Jesse.  That role is far from easy and I think he, and most commentators on our screens, do a good deal better than their counterparts from the WPT, who have a far larger production budget.  Where the action is less than rivetting (lets be honest, a lot of the time in this format), we should not forget that guys like Roy are encouraged to bring a bit of 'drama' through commentary where they can, to keep the viewer interested.   He may not be everybody's cup of tea, but Roy is one of the most experienced co-commentators in the UK game and I'm sure he doesn't keep getting asked to do this sort of thing for his wit and charm (or Ladbrokes contract) Cheesy

Don't get me started on Colin Murray though.....  Grin

In his interview with Tikay on poker week recently, Roy came across as a really nice guy.

All I'm saying is, I wish he'd make an effort to get that across more in the commentary, rather than dismantling and criticising every move played.

no argument from me about Murray

U turn then?

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

not at all. I still think Roys commentary is overly critical, often rude, and often not in line with how he actually plays himself.

Just prepared to admit that, away from the commentary job, he seemed like a nice guy. I posted as much in the poker week thread a couple of weeks ago.

It's his commentary I dislike, not him personally. I don't know the bloke.

I think Compo is an absolutely brilliant broadcaster and one of the best at one on one interviews.  He always puts his subject at ease and knows his content inside out. I can't compliment him enough.  BUT....I have several outtakes of Compo doing show intros and links and it is comedy gold.  I'm just rushing to get old so I can sell the stuff on ebay to pay for my winters somewhere warm, like an all night Tescos.

Point being, 5 minutes can be a lot of time in broadcast terms, 10 hours a day for a couple of weeks might try a lot of us.
