Evening all! We are fresh from a pointless half hour driving around Luton trying to find our hotel before giving up and heading straight for the casino... Oops... Anyway, we are happily ensconced now in the bowels of the Luton G Casino. Camera's a-charging, we're working out how to use the tournament clock, and play is due to start at 6pm. See you then...

Greetings all, we have indeed arrived, although after a hellacious journey in which our Internet route planner let us down to the point of actually fabricating roads and locations. In fact, it comes to something when a phone conversation with TightEnd is more reliable than the endless intelligence capacities of the world wide web. Sigh.
So, after heading up numerous dead ends and one way systems (since when was Luton the new London?!), we finally stumbled upon the dual carriage that the Casino lies on. A relieved trundle into the car park and we were finally here, braced and raring to go.
I've never been to this Casino before, and was pleasantly surprised to (1) its size and (2) its general brand spanking newness, both of which are top class. In many ways, it's reminiscent of the Broadway Casino in Birmingham in terms of spaciousness and decor. However, and although I have yet to fully justify this observation, there doesn't seem to be the same buzz about the place that was once enjoyed on Dunstable Road. Everyone seems very morbid and the general atmosphere is somewhat lack-lustre. My hope tonight is that the numbers for tonights £750 Main Event suddenly implode and we are treated to a hustle and bustle of poker festivity. The chances are though, that we'll only see around 60 or 70 runners, because with just twenty minutes left before the official kick-off time, there were only a few familiar faces mulling around the bar.
Numbers might be low and the atmosphere a worry, but we have one saving grace in the returning Ali Malu, who could spark any tournament, and cardroom for that matter, into life with his eye-brow raising approach to Texas Hold'Em. Fingers crossed that he is in full Malluing mode so we have plenty of action to report. He doesn't often let us down on that front.
