We reach a milestone tomorrow.

The day has finally arrived for Reece to have his line out. Timing isn't too good as he returns to school but at least his first day in year 9 will be the start of a new era for him.

He is very excited as well as being a little apprehensive, after all it has been part of him since birth, it is like part of his body to him.

All he is saying " this means I can go swimming for as long as I want with Grandad". then a great big cheesy smile appears on his face.

Bad timing? I don't think so. Greatest day of his life, Maureen.

Congrats to you all, what a journey it's been.

He'll grow up to be some man, he really will.

Having a brain freeze morning here.  Pretty sure you've already told me all this, so apologies.  What does this mean long term for him?  Is there a risk he'd ever have to go back to it?  How soon before he can jump in that pool?

Keeping fingers, toes and everything else crossed for him.  xx

We were told back in July ( i think it was) that his line was coming out but they are short of anesthetists at the moment so we have had to wait. He swims now but only for half hour a time then it's straight to the bedroom to have all his dressing changed, such a pain for him as it has to be kept as sterile as possible and pulling sticky dressings of all the time for six whole years causes some soreness I can tell you. Some times it has torn some of his skin and it then bleeds but still more has to be put back on over it. So you see how much this will change his life. Plus no more high risk life threatening line infections.

We dont even want to think about if he ever has to go back on, that is just way to bad a thing to think of at such an exciting time as this. This should be it end of..no more TPN etc.

He will remain on gastro feeds into his belly for 10 - 12 hours per night but like i said before these are not life threatening just another way of pumping more easily absorbed calories into him whilst he sleeps.
