ok, a hand from dtd's excellent £50 thursday night freezeout.
140+ runners started roughly 30 left on 4 tables, 13 paid, blinds 800/1600 with a 100 running ante ave stack 27000ish. not long moved to the table so only aware of a couple of players on the table.
8 on the table. 2nd to act makes it 3600 total, a player who moved to the table with me (his stack prior to the bet 15000) a fairly loose player plenty of chat, have seen him make the same move a few times with kq a 10 and pocket pairs.
folds to the small blind who dwells up for a while looks at my stack and initial raisers stack and announces all in (he has us both well covered approx 35k) i know nothing about this player.
here we go, im in the BB and have not looked yet as is usual for me until its my turn. i look down and find pocket 8's
as i said im in the BB and have 10300 behind.
ok taking all the above into account your views please on my move??
without revealing the move i made here i was rather miffed and still am about the amount of stick i took for doing what i did so your replies will be interesting. will reveal what happened later. nick (redbull) was also on the table but not involved in the hand his view as he see it would be interesting to.

I push, you have just posted a BB with the SB to go through you you have less than 6x BB you need a double up, and this could be your best chance. I'm not entirely happy with the push though tbh but now is the time to be gambling.

you're not pushing, you're calling. I call as I'm thinking SB probably had a decent ace and looked at the stacks to see if he's racing...and I would flop the 8 anyways

If you had twice as many chips you would have an easy decision. But once the sb goes through you and within another 8 hands your stack is going to be cut in half. So this situation needs to be given due consideration. Do you want to play your 8's against A-K for 27k when you have 10k left? I do. There is a fair chance the loose original raiser folds and it is more likely that the other guy has two high cards than a big pair so it seems like a reasonable opportunity to me. Not a great spot by any means but then again you aren't in a great spot yourself right now.

I was sat to his right in that hand, with 6 BB's left and 2.7:1 to call with the re-raiser giving you protection from the 3rd player who would prob now have to fold, getting your chips in made sense given his range.
However his comments for the next 10 mins were not exactly needed. - we got the point he was not happy

with 6x bb left and the strong possibility of being heads up with SB, and hopefully racing..its a call with the hopefully dead money provided by the inital raiser.
against that you have a round to push in as first into the pot with some fold equity. No guarantee you'd make sufficient progress by getting doubled up, or even find a spot
I'd call here

until very recently my answer to this would've been an instacall but I've made a couple of changes to my game and I'm now passing 88 here. I realised that calling here was costing me a lot of money

after early prominence in support of the call and late gains for the fold it looks quite a split decision.
for the record i called the early limper folded and my 88 then went on to river the st8.
my opponent then berated me for at least 15 minutes like hes the only gut ever to have aces busted lol
thanks for your views guys

Hey mate, I agree that this wasn't a straightforward spot. I don't think the call was terrible by any means given the circumstances although I myself would probably have opted for a fold and then to push the next unopened pot. AK is the best you can hope for really here (which would be great with the overlaid pot) but more often than not you're up against a bigger pair. In all honesty I would have been pushing unopened pots a round or two earlier but then I'm a push bot when I'm short lol.
You played well from what I saw and he was just a bad loser. Don't let the moaners get to you!
