Bahamas EPT payout structure

There was a big debate on the boards a while back about payout structures and their steep nature at the final table. Apart from the doubling of prize money between first and second spots (presumably for a headline grabbing figure?) this payout structure seems nice and gradual, a step forward? Although is it perhaps a little too flat at the very start (51st to 120th getting the same cash) or is this acceptable when circa 65% of entrants have qualified for somewhere between $0 and $650 in satellites?

It's fine right up until the jump between first and second, which has obviously been set so there is a headline $2m first prize (even though this payout means the chances of this not ending in a deal are close to zero).

Having a big wodge of players getting the same money between 51st and 120th does mean there is an acceleration of players going out at this stage (once they've got their $16,000 locked up) which should help there to be more play at the end of the tournament, which is a good thing. I can't remember from reading the updates if this happened and what the average stack is now.

1136 runners pay $7800 + $200 for juice - so thats $227,200 in rake paid.

1136 lots of $7800 = $8,860,800

total paid out in prize money = $8,594,976

so what happens to the $265,824 missing from the prize pool?

Thats what the near quarter of a million dollars rake is for!! Why should the players who put up their hard earned (sometimes) money have to lose out twice? Its up to the event organizers to sort out the tournament staff and it should come from their rake.

have also heard it mentioned as well that they take it off the prize fund to tip the dealers for dealing the comp - again **** that, its up to those who win to decide if they want to tip the dealers - not the tournament organizers.

and it cant be a tax issue either as they dont know the nationality of the players who are going to cash in the tournament (though i dont know how the tax issue on winnings works in the bahamas)

was there for the 05 event when it was part of the WPT and John Gale won it - they did something similar then and i couldnt get any answers as to why they did it (or ones that were plausable anyway)

Its just clever advertising really isn't it, abit like are indirect taxation system in the uk. Im sure if they made it $7800+500 tournament effectively what they have now, that isn't particularly outrageous.

but they've turned it into a $7500+$500 tourney - if i'm seeing a tournament that advertizes that $7800 goes into the prize pool and $200 goes into the rake then i expect 1136 lots of $7800 to be paid out.

i agree if they say at beginning its a $7500+$500 tourney or even get people to pay $7800+$500 then no problem as i know exactly what the prize pool is and how much the prizes are going to be in advance rather than waiting to see how much has been creamed off before i get my monkey paws on it

when i was there i have to admit the dealers were all very professional - pokerstars had got a lot of the dealers from the WSOP in Vegas to deal the event so it was very well run, but then they were being paid to deal and getting a free holiday at the same time so of course they didnt mind volunteering for the job

their wages should be paid from the rake, thats what its for - if they want to make it a $7500+$500 tourney then advertize it as such.
