You can deal with a bad cold.  If you have flu, you will suffer. Doping yourself up with drugs will numb the symptons but won't help cure it any quicker.
Flu kills people.  Colds are a temporary pain in the neck.

Keep hydrated and the body fuelled as best you can.  A sympathetic partner is also essential.  I've had flu twice, proper flu.  Never felt so bad - my muscles ached, my joints ached, my bones ached.

Agreed, and they'll cost you about 18 quid in pharmaceutical bills. I know. I did it. It didn't really work.

Paracetomal with codeine is good though...

Forgot to thank you Lee for passing your flu on to me.  That's the thanks I get for taking you to Brize Norton and going an hour out of my way.

LMFAO, I didnt get anything!

Nothing in truth will work Beechams cold and flu etc will not cure a cold nor will it speed up its recovery, it will simply take the edge of the feeling of the cold.

Vitamin C wnt work despite what ppl think, there is no documented evidence of it relieving cold and flu symptoms.

And excercise or "working up a sweat" certainly wont work work either. I did a study on this in uni and exercise when low on energy will decrease the production of immunoglobins in the body which are the "stuff" that aid in the fighting of the cold or flu virus.

Simply rest as much as possible is its flu and drink plenty of water, preferably electrolyte drinks (not lucozade- things like powerade are what u what)

If its a cold the only drugs id actually recommend are decongestant tablets whose active ingredient targets the sinus side of stufff and doesnt just contain paracetemol/codeine like beechams which just alleviate the pain.

I very rarely have colds at all and if i do i only have cold symptoms for no more than 18 hours so i must be doing something right.

You're going to be a great doctor one day Smiley

I agree with this - only thing that does me any real good when I'm bunged up is Vicks Sinex micromist - top stuff.

Omg finally human again - thanks sooooooo much for all your remedies - i was desperate enough to try everything - and i must say that although not the most effective - the duke's was certainly the most enjoyable... Wink

The garlic and ginger although - incredibly difficult to get my head round  - and defo not one to be tried near the other half - was actually fantastic for the whole "sweat it out" and "soothe your stomach" concept  so thank you tantrum.

Friends share don't they?Huh?

I'm guessing it was from the journey to Brize Norton.  I should have made you sit in the boot.  It can't be from being in the room with you, as you were sleeping with KP not me.

This week I've felt proper crappy so can sympathise with skrikera completely.  It's the lack of sleep as much as anything.  Working through it probably didn't help.  In the end, with flu, it's a case of rest, hydration, and more rest.  I'm just about over it now.  Just got the remnants of an annoying cough now.

If anyone doesn't know, but is interested in how the immune system works, read this: http://www.howstuffworks.com/immune-system.htm - what a marvel the human body and evolution is.
