They're belted galloways as Geo says Red, originally from up near me. Very good beef cattle & very decorative as well.
I like the idea that they get fat on poor keep. If they were horses we would call them 'Good doers' Aye, they're like the Shetland & the Highland cattle. They use shetland cattle now for conservation grazing - even to keep down scrub birch trees in marshland etc. The saying is along the lines of they've got to be tough - all the soft ones died out long ago. Funny how lots the hardy breeds are scots - at least until I look out at the countryside & weather - it's not an easy place to keep livestock. |
