Nearly killed myself running away from one of them.

Where I live (Chelmsford) there's a fairly narrow path to the town center the way I travel and if you're unlucky they will just wander onto it. No idea what upset him/her that day, but I had to jog away quite quickly then nearly slipped on a wet rock and fell into the dirty River Chelmer! Would not have been pleased.

Vicious, vicious creatures.

All joking aside, yestrday was "learn to point & shoot" day.

I took over 150 snaps, none of them obey many rules, but I did what I intended - started to try & get a feel for the camera.

Have you got a parrot on your shoulder?

Can't believe you're concentrating on the birds and not the fascinating tale of those houses on the far side of the river. It was featured on the One Show last week - watch this before it goes on Wednesday (about 19 minutes in, unless you're interested in David Suchet, in which case you can watch the earlier bit)

Those houses are all houseboats because you're not allowed to build houses on the island.

I think having a shadow of oneself in the pictures is okay, a kind of signature rather like Hitchcock being in his films.

Quite arty really when you think about it.

For the second time today, too subtle.

Really?

Well, strange as it seems, I took a bunch of photos of those very river-houses, one in particular, because it had a sort of American colonial feel to it. Crap photos though, very "flat". These homes are about 200 yards from my place.

Andrew.

I am still getting the feel of the place, but there are three islands in the Thames just there, the smallest, & most westerly, being Platts Eyot, the middle one is is the biggest - Taggs Island, & the most easterly of the three, quite small, is Ash Island. The latter is barely 500 yards from Hampton Court Bridge, & almost directly opposite Moseley Lock.

There you go, Andrew, a slightly less flat snap of that rather beautiful water house.

Shame those female rowers got in the way of the shot - what unfortunate timing.
