I think Peter Gabriel owns one of those floating houses, it's his recording studio (or maybe it's Dave Gilmour, or both).
Tony, your taking to the Art of photography like a duck to water.

Dave Gilmour certainly does - featured on Three Men in a Boat

I tried to snap a passing helicopter but it was quite high and going like the clappers. I put the camera into 'sport' mode to speed the shutter up a bit. The picture itself isn't very good but the chopper's rotors are frozen motionless. I was surprised by that so I checked the exposure time, it was 1/1300 of a second. Blimey! It turns out their training pitch was the landing pad for emergency helicopter landings destined for Southampton General Hospital. They have since opened a dedicated landing pad on the roof now. Click to see full-size image. |
 Nice machine though.

"I was at one of my son's football matches a while back when this happened..."
Hmmm, I have one son and it was his football match. Is that sentence correct?

It looks fine to me. The 'son' is singular and the match is plural. If you had multiple sons it would be "I was at one of my sons' football match..." with match becoming singular. If you wanted to indicate that one of your sons played in more than one match then "I was at one of my sons' many football matches...", might fit the bill. I await Gatso's ruling with interest. As I saw posted on facebook the other day - Grammar; the difference between knowing your shit and knowing you're shit.* *Not that I think anyone's shit because they're no good with grammar
