While were talking about food, have you ever tried to eat just one spoonful of Nutella? I tried it last night and polished off a whole jar.

Note: This is not me. I have standards.

Last night I watched the film 'Heat' with Robert De Nero and Al Pachino. (I don't mean I actually watched it with them, I mean I watched it, and they starred in it).

For some reason, I had never seen it before, it was one of those that just slipped past me. What a great film.

Robert & Al, both now ~ 70 were in their 50's when that film was made and in their absolute prime. 'A' list stars at the top of their profession. Oozing confidence and sex appeal.

Them then remind me of me now.  How quickly the years fly by. Scary really.

'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'

That's another film I didn't see until 30 years after it's release. When I did finally get to watch it, I was blown away.

Film 4 on Sky are doing a season of these iconic movies at the moment. 'Films for life' I think it's called. I'm deffo going to try to catch the ones I haven't seen before.

BTW- Have you ever seen anyone with as much presence as Jack Nicholson? (Cept Caroline Cougar perhaps).

Stanley Kubrick's 'A Clockwork Orange' came out in 1971. It probably took the best part of a year to arrive at the ABC cinema in Rotherham, so that was like, 1972. I would have been 14.

Clockwork Orange was rated X (Adults only) I was tallish for my age and extremely well developed in the moustache department, so I had no bother getting into X rated films.

For some reason though, they wouldn't let me in to see this one. I tried several different picture houses, and got knocked back at every one.

Every time I got knocked back, I got more curious, and more desperate to see it. Eventually I tried to sneak in through the fire exit at the Rex on Woodhouse Rd Intake, but I was caught by security (A woman with a big metal torch) and threatened with arrest.

Remember, there were no Videos, DVDs or computers back then, so I never did get to see it. Until the other day that is, it was the Late Nite Movie on C4.

I Watched spellbound, bursting with anticipation.... It was utter crap"

Is that the lesser spotted Ariston?

So.. I'm just having a troll trawl thru Blonde and I stumble across what can only be described as a bird watching diary. WTF?

I have only one anecdote I can bring to this particular party, not being too heavily into this particular pastime myself.

Many years ago I dated a guy who mainly played for Liverpool Reserves, but was having a spell in the first team at the time. Not a "I dated a footballer" brag, but setting the tone for the tale.

We've been out a couple of times for a drink and for our next date he says he's taking me out on the Sunday for a day out. So he picks me up and we drive off into some beautiful countryside, where he turns into a lane and stops the car.

Now up to this point he's been very well behaved, and I can't deny I'm a little surprised at what seems to be a pretty crass move on his part - don't forget dogging wasn't around back in the 1940s - but I'm even more bemused when he says "wait here".

Ah. Call of nature I assume.

well... yes, but not in the way I imagined.

He walks over to a bush (not mine) and starts to root inside it. After moving loads of branches and pushing leaves out of the way he exposes a box. (So much opportunity for innuendo here but I'm gonna leave it for now. Thread delivers without) So he opens the lid of the roughly made wooden box, hidden deep in a bush in the middle of nowhere, and takes out a small notebook and gets back in the car.

I'm totally baffled by now, wondering what kind of secret society he is a member of, what kind of classified info can be in this book, and am I even going to get out of here alive??

It's a bird watching book

It's a notebook where bird watchers (apparently they don't like to be called twitchers) note down sightings of unusual birds seen at this particular vantage point, for other enthusiasts to read and then note their own sightings. So we watched some birds flyby and he wrote something in the book and then put it back in the box and rearranged the bush to hide it again.

Twenty years on I still ask myself if this actually happened or did I dream it. I still lie awake at night now wondering just how many of these books are hidden all over our innocent countryside, buried there just to shatter the hopes of any girl out on a date with what she thought was a normal guy?

(In case you're wondering, we did go out again after that but it was never the same)

I bet you were the most unusual bird ever to visit that spot anyway.

What an amazing thing that Carolione happened to be reading this Diary today, of all days.

Nice story, Miss C.

PS - What is "dogging"?

PPS - I have a Diary, too, but it does not stoop to the levels of this humdrum affair, assuming, of course, affairs can be humdrum, as mine has really really interesting photos of home made food & things.

If this had gone the wrong way, she might have ripped me a new one.

Food is my god, as I think Redog noted when we met in Luton. I don't fancy a humdrum affair though, but thanks for asking.

What if I throw in my speciality, which is pineapple?
