Well I've been long pondering a diary of my own, but strangely fear "tumbleweed" and that it would be a bit eccentric!

Burke? No special interest, but a healthy nose for research and a general interest in the history of politics...see, eccentric and unusual!

p.s loving the holiday snaps. A cut above the standard set of gurning beach shots, I'm not sure I've seen such a focus on road architecture before!

Don't fear the tumbleweed. just do it for your own pleasure.

Sometimes my diary gets so little feedback that I fear I have slipped over the border from Hinkley and ended up in Coventry, but for all that, I still enjoy doing it.

I can't wait to hear what I'm going to say next.....

I had planned to hire a little moped, but Carlos said "Don't get a one of they seely leetle muchacha bikes, she is no good for mountain". (He emphasised this point by spitting on the ground "Get a beeg 'fook a you' motocicleta" He advised, flashing me a toothless grin.

I think he may have added "You big poofter" but I can't be sure, so I'm giving myself the benefit of the doubt.

I didn't end up getting a "beeg fook a you motocicleta" But I did get a nice scooter with big wheels and a powerful 125cc engine. I opened her up on the motorway and easily got over 130kmph. I expected Mrs Red to give me earache but fortunately she doesn't seem to have any concept of speed when she's on the back of a motorbike. The only time she did comment was when we went over a particularly deep pot-hole. She said "Ooh, me womb"

Mostly though, we just pottered about exploring the coast roads and little mountain villages. It was wonderful.

If you're going to wear your underpants on the outside of your trousers, you have to learn to fight.

Did you try out the funicular railway Tom, it takes you to a Hotel called Rio Sol, does the best Chateaubriand in Gran Canaria.
